Hello everyone, I am an American and married my Brazilian husband here in Brazil. We want to move back to the U.S. together so I was told If I wanted to stay here while waiting for my husband that I would have to have permanent residency here. I filed for that and even received the visit from the policia federal, and now waiting the 90 days. Will it really take 90 days for me to get the residency? So after I receive it we will file for the DCF for him. I wanted to know about how long from when we file for the DCF will it take until we get the interview date??? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

Hi!

I'm an American citizen who's been living in Brasil for about 25 years now. I just filed the I-130 for my Brasilian wife. For me to do that I had to prove that I have been a resident for at least 6 months prior to filing. I was told that it's taking about 6 weeks from date of filing to get the info packet back from the USCIS and then 2 weeks to schedule the 2nd interview in Rio.

Hope this helps.

Hey Bill and Lovenena!!!

I am an American cit who has been living here in SP since Jan 2009. I got my Amnesty (and therefore permanent residence) in August. I married my Brazilian husband back in October 2009.

We are now getting together all of the documents for DCF. Sounds like the 3 of us are almost exactly on the right track.

What did you guys submit with your I-130 and where did you submit it? Did you mail it? Did you go in person? Which consulate did you go to? We want to apply originally at the consulate in SP, but then obviously we have to have our final interview in Rio....What do you we do first!?

Thanks!

Quick question:

I know I saw this on here before, but I'd love some clarification.

It says on the instructions for the I-130 that you must include translations of any documents not in English. However, I remember seeing that if the doc was in English or Portuguese that the consulate would accept it (since obviously they speak English and Portuguese). Did you find this to be true? Can we leave our marriage license and his birth certificate in Portuguese without translating?

Thanks!

Marina

Hi sorry it took so long for me to write back! We are in Brasilia and we got a lawyer to handle our situation bc we found it really complicated. Everyone I talked to said something different and every website said different things so we opted for the lawyer. As of now The fed police came to our home and checked everything out and they told me to wait 90 days and then i should have permanent residency. So I'm sorry but I don't know how to answer your questions because we haven't gotten that far yet...=( So now I met an American who has done the same process and she told be its been 6 months and still no residency!! Even though they told her it would be 90 days too!! AHAHHH now I'm sad because I can't file for my husband until I have permanent residency!!! All I know is our lawyer said we will file for the DCF but haven't started yet...Anyway sorry I'm no help....Oh and as far as translating your documents they made us translate everything that was english ito portuguese. Did it take you 90 days from the time the fed police came to your home to the time you got residency??? Thanks and take care! =)

I don't know that much about the DCF process, since we are doing the CR-1, but from what I understand you don't need to translate your documents if they are on english or portuguese. You would need other languages translated, in case you lived somewhere else and you would have police records, or anything else written on a different language. I advice you to call the Rio consulate and ask them directly. But for the CR-1 I didn't need any of my documents translated. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I got Amnesty -which means I was illegal and then I filed to stay. Amnesty is over now. Anyway, with Amnesty I never had to have the home visit. I was giving my permanent residency on the same day as my amnesty interview. :) Sorry I can't help answer your questions! :)
