My fiancee is Russian. She has Hepatitis B. I've read that the medical exam checks for HIV and syphilis only. However, my fiancee was told that Hepatitis makes here ineligible. Does anybody here know if she is ineligible and if so, can I complete a waiver form for here stating that I know about the disease and am vaccinated against?

These are the "communicable diseases of public health significance" thatmay trigger a denial:

* severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)

* tuberculosis (TB)

* leprosy

* human immunodeficiency virus (HIV/AIDS)

* syphilis (infectious state)

* chancroid (STD, similar to syphilis and herpes)

* gonorrhea

* granuloma inguinale (STD, donovanosis)

* lymphogranuloma (STD, chlamydia)

Hepatitis B is not on the list of conditions that will make her ineligible. At some point she will have to either provide vaccination records or be vaccinated for a number of things, and hep B is one of them, so she'll have to mention her status at that time.

Chancroid, gonorrhea and chlamydia are on there? So if you show up at your medical with one of those, you're SOL, try again? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that all solved with a dose of antibiotics? Weird...

Actually, from what I read on that link, they only test you for syphilis and HIV at the medical exam. I think the rest would affect your AOS.

They allow the treatable diseases to be treated, once they are gone you can go back and pass your medical.

Hepatisis B is a type of Hepatitis that is acquired though sexual inter----- and blood transfusion (direct blood contact to an open mucus membrane is included). It is considered an STD as gonorrhea and chlamydia. Even if you are vaccinated againts it, you are not 100% sure you won't get it if you are in direct contact with the person who has it. Also, vaccination is for your protection from acquiring the disease, and not after you have acquired the disease already.

This may not be included in the tests to be done to her, but a health care professional can easily tell when one has hepatitis (the patient will have jaundice) and once noted, she will then be requested to take a confirmatory test. Of course, this will be documented.

I suggest that she gets treated before her interview and get a treatment progress report from her doctor. Please also note that hepatitis B can be fatal if not treated immediately.

I'm sure she will need a waiver for this even if it is not listed in the USCIS guidelines for waiver of ineligibility.

I think she will require a waiver.

I know it asks about medical conditions on the Medical Questionare.

Can she do anything now to help, when the interview comes around?
