Hello there fellow VJ's, just curious here, me and my fiancee got married in the Philippines October 29, 2009, and hubby went back in the US after a week, now, he is updating his insurance and he is about to put our names (me as his wife and two step-daughters) as his additional dependents, will that work? eventhough our petition is not yet approved / filed?

I appreciate your input on this matter. God Bless....anyone who have an idea on this matter?

Yes, it should work. I just added my wife to my medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, even though she still has no SSN. Noone asked to see a marriage certificate, immigration paperwork, or anything.

Hi,

My husband did it a week after I got here. The insurance company might ask some ID for you and your kids. They just asked a copy of my california ID in order to be on his insurance plan.

He did changed his status (from single to married) though with his tax while I was still in PI. Hope this info will be of help.

Good Luck in your journey.

Only his employer and the insurance company can give a definite answer to your question. There are different strokes for different folks! :star:

Just a suggestion, but you should have your spouse check to see if the health insurance will cover you and the kids in the Philippines.

Most insurances will not cover you in a foreign country anyways it was in my opinion a waste of money his insurance is going to double or triple and there will be no use for it until you come to the US 6 months plus. Medical is cheap enough in the Philippines with american $$.

some ppl do this to help generate evidence of a bonafide marriage, used to submit on initial i-130 petition.

Rarely can the insurance be used out of country.

IMO - it's not so useful, and costs the USC a bit of money.

Sure, do it once she's in the USA, where it's USEFUL.

Tell yer USC Spouse to have a read ?

That's the stuff I did for the I-130, prior to submittal.

If you and your children are still in the Philippines I think its a waste of money because you might not be covered being outside of the US.

Once you are here, thats the right time to have you covered by your husband's insurance.

I agree with JOM on this suggestion.

I have both health insurance here in the US and Philippines.

I still have a health insurance in the Philippines as a privilege from my old job until the end of 2009. It is useless since i'm here in the US and could not use it.

Here in the US, my hubby also added me up in his health insurance. Health insurance is very useful. Visited several specialist for my health problem, Did not pay for anything. :)
