Hello,

My wife and I plan to get married next month in the US. She is a Japanese Citizen and lives in Tokyo and I live in the US. I was just wondering if after the marriage, she should use my last name to be put on the marriage certificate. If she does carry my last name, should I put that on the I-130 form? Will she also be required to change her last name on her passport and other documents such as joint bank accounts, joint apartment lease? This is all for our planned CR-1.

You say you'll be getting married in USA. Is she staying in US after marriage, or she's going back to Japan to wait for the immigration process to be over?

But to answer your question - yes, she can change her last name after marriage, before you petition her. and yes, she'll have to change her name in the passport as well
