I seriously wonder what the end game scenario is for the teabaggers. Do they think that they will convert the moderates? If this is a legitimate attempt to forge a new party, more power to them. I think that their brash attempt to try to bully moderate republicans is a bad course of action, but to each his own. I hope that the far left does the same and eventually we can have 4 parties.

And then because of the way our system is designed, we'll end up with 2.

Are you familiar with the character "Token" from South Park?

Yes, but thats your predictable answer. Michael Steele has been popular for a long time in the party. Years.

Republican Cannibalism. This is beautiful.

Regain majorities by narrowing your appeal. Excellent strategery!

Celebrate all you want. But once that ship is sunk - who will you be able to blame? The democrats will be finished. The third party conservatives will have super-majorities.

Its in your best interest for that ship not to sink. I'm all for it sinking. The sooner the better. They've been libs for far too long.

Joe, i'm not trying to not insult you here, but that is beyond delusional.

Really stop and think about it. No republicans, but yet there is still a conservative base.. It will happen.

Not really. The US needs a credible opposition. Hopefully something credible will emerge and soon. The US needs tangible apposition policies, not all this hate rhetoric which is so tiresome.

If enough Americans support the hate rhetoric, then we'll finally have an opposition that is honest about what it stands for. The current veneer of respectability that the GOP enjoys, mostly because they've successfully lied to people about not being a bunch of racist and sexist fucktards, needs to be destroyed.

The teabaggers are just the people to do it.

I don't believe that most GOP are that right wing. We shall see though. While I understand it would be nicer to have both party's get rid of their lunatic fringe, it's unlikely to happen because, as the 'conservatives' will discover, getting elected just 'aint that simple if you don't belong to one of the two major parties.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Can't disagree there. I wish there were more choices..

Generally the 3rd party is just a spoiler.

If the dems really wanted to win the WH for sure in 2012, they'd pay for Ron Paul to run Libertarian. There'd be no chance of a repub winning.

Me either. Thats their problem. They're too left wing.

I disagree. Our two party system works by forging alliances for the sake of solidarity, provided that in the larger context of ideals, everyone is on the same page. The Far Right Wing of the Republican Party is being fanatical and fascist with their viewpoint. You can't build an effective coalition when you only accept one, narrow viewpoint on the issues.

I could not disagree more. The two party system is part of what is causing the US to enter a cycle of political self destruction. That's not good for the American people at all.

Political power is gained with inclusion not exclusion. That's how the Republicans came to power under Reagan. Its unlikely that this will result in a serious third part, this schism in the Republican party is happening to far right to possibly pull in any democrats.

The result will probably be one of two things. A much smaller cleansed Republican party, With alot of moderates joining the Democrats or a Republican party with a serious identity crisis for years to come. None of this will result in Republicans regaining any real power, unless they can find a inclusive message.

While a third party might help the US political system, it will have to come from the middle ideologically. Otherwise the party on the left or the right would have too much power and the two smaller parties will find a way to merge.
