Connie Mackey, president of the Family Research Council Action PAC [said] that if a conservative candidate were to emerge to run against Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) in the 2012 Republican primary, FRC Action will back them.

"Well of course there is an audience that would love to see Olympia Snowe out of office, within the ranks of social conservatives, that's for certain," said Mackey.

A new survey from Public Policy Polling (D) found that a generic conservative challenger would lead the moderate Snowe in a Republican primary by a whopping 59%-31% margin.

I don't know why all the Democrats are celebrating this as unprecedented Republican infighting. Primaries happen. There are a couple exceptions, but for the most part the discussion is about unseating liberal Republicans in the primary. Meaning, they'll still be running as a Republican in the general election. For those new to the political scene, primary battles are actually pretty common in both parties.

I disagree. Our two party system works by forging alliances for the sake of solidarity, provided that in the larger context of ideals, everyone is on the same page. The Far Right Wing of the Republican Party is being fanatical and fascist with their viewpoint. You can't build an effective coalition when you only accept one, narrow viewpoint on the issues.

Celebrate all you want. But once that ship is sunk - who will you be able to blame? The democrats will be finished. The third party conservatives will have super-majorities.

I seriously wonder what the end game scenario is for the teabaggers. Do they think that they will convert the moderates? If this is a legitimate attempt to forge a new party, more power to them. I think that their brash attempt to try to bully moderate republicans is a bad course of action, but to each his own. I hope that the far left does the same and eventually we can have 4 parties.
