Yes, and any one of these numbers would beat the -1.9% we had for 2008 or the -0.5% for 2009. It's an upward trend that the economy is on rather than the steep downward trend that is has been on when this administration took office. Unemployment numbers have always lagged following a recession so there's really nothing new in the continued high unemployment numbers. You know that, of course, but you just elect to pretend that this is somehow unique to the economic recovery we're now embarking on.

GDP increased with 10% idle. That means businesses are more productive without large number of surplus workers. The economy is going need a real stimulus beyond the phony one Obama and the Democrats passed before hiring picks up again. If you think the public is going to accept high unemployment over a period of years then Obama needs to dust off Pres. Carter's "malaise" speech.

Decades, centuries, millenniums, all milestones as simply more zeros added to the number of fingers on our hands. But the next milestone is 20%.

It's not that we don't have a zillion things to do, just someone is missing the boat that those zillions of things we have to do, should be done here. What did they expect when all of our jobs were exported?

Real unemployment is fast approaching 20%, but yet there is still no mass rioting on the streets, no real protest. We're beaten dogs and it is a pathetic thing. Hope springs eternal.

Where the bulk of capital is. . . the private sector. Believe it or not there's pent up demand for spending as many investors and consumers have waited for some financial stability (Federal govenment has a role there) and there is plenty of excess capacity around for growth. The problem with massive government spending is that it create economic distortions, soaks up capital and breeds confusion as people don't want to invest if the government is going to change the rules.

Actually, it would need to be a Ronald Reagan speech he'd need to dust off since he was president the last time unemployment was so high. Also, it is continued use of 'Reaganomics' along with two ill-advised and ultimately futile wars that are a big cause of the financial problems that ultimately led to the total economic collapse under the Bush administration.
