The interview date will always be unexpected.

How is the interview unexpected? It's pretty much the norm to have an interview, and have it within a certain time frame. I don't know what kind of trip this is-but I certainly wouldn't be making vacation plans during a time that I knew there was a good possibility I would have my USCIS interview scheduled.

I did not say that the interview is unexpected, I said the interview date.

I would look for ways to reschedule the trip, not the interview. As Trillium already said-what is it more important to you and your spouse at this time?
