Frustrating information from MIS-information line!

I just called the 1-800 USCIS mis-information line to get a status on my pending case since the processing date for my district office is over 30 days past my receipt date for my I-485. After waiting for over 1 hour I spoke to an office who advised me that basically the district office processing dates are INVALID for the family based I-485 and should not even be used. That I-485's are taking anywhere from 24-48 months to process and that many FBI name checks are taking up to 1 year to come back. But then also said that name checks often come back withing 120 days after the interview??? She also told me that 'touches' on your case can mean absolutely nothing at all. And that an officer is not at all obligated to update your online status message or even send you an email....and most don't. She did claim to be able to check a few different systems to see if my case was approved and said that it had not yet, so basically the 2 touches that I've had on my I-485 in the last week mean nothing?! UGH...I am more confused and frustrated now than I was before.... :crying::angry:

Then if what she said is true, why even bother being able to check your online status if it's inaccurate, means nothing and is usually not even updated? It just gives people more frustration and false hope.

ChanelKitten,

Re-read my post - I concurred with the statement that 'touches' are meaningless.

I do also agree that sometimes the online status is inaccurate (online status for my petition continues to report that the petition has been received and I will be notified when a decision is made, but it was approved about 2-1/2 years ago), but most often it's correct.

You raise a good question - why check if you're just going to get upset about what you see? Yet people do. Masochists, I guess.

I too called as my I485 was 30 days past the date given for Tampa DO. The lady in this case was very helpful, said she would send a "Outside of Normal Processing Time" to the local office, gave me a reference number and told me to call back if I'd heard nothing in 30 days. Not holding my breath - will wait the 30 days and call - I suppose

After going for an infopass appointment and being informed that the people answering the phones at the misinformation lines are only contract people and can only see as much information on our case numbers as we see ourselves I gave up on calls to the line. We now have an interview for our AOS and the website has not changed.
