It's completely stupid to have medical insurance tied to employment.

If you are really sick and need to use that insurance, you may also be sick enough to lose your job.

It's completely stupid for health care to be tied to employment.

It isn't. The insurance is what is mostly tied to employment.

Exactly.

Everyone who has health insurance through their employer should thank the unions.

Healthcare coverage evolved as a result of competitive compensation between employers/corporations/companies as they competed for employees in the job market.

Health Care coverage is not the function, or responsibilty of the Federal Government, except of course in Socialist societies......which is where we're headed after having voted in a a far left socialist President.

What is your position on Medicare?

Mine...The realization that you can't un-ring the bell......A wasteful entitlement that we cannot discontinue.

Everyone who has health insurance through their employer should thank the unions.

Or they could thank the people paying for that benefit, their employer. Or, and this is totally crazy, they can thank the person earning the benefit.... yourself!!!! Dumb librul.

The labor unions used their negotiating power to get the kind of benefits workers needed for security - pension plans, health and dental insurance. They also helped provide a strong political based of moderate voters who looked to politicians that supported their quality of life. It's just that Right Wingers have systematically attacked the unions and labeled them out as corrupt and anti-business, so workers have no bargaining power beyond their marketable skills. And with an ever more global economy, less and less job set skills are impervious to outside competition. We've become an economy that is ideal for the rich and powerful. The Right Wingers have essentially, made a Nanny State a necessity.

Yeah, a long time ago. Why does my employer offer me health insurance today? Because I'm worth it.

I have proven myself worthy of health care.

Have you?

The non-union companies who still provide medical insurance do so in part because they don't want their employees to unionize.

That's hilarious. My workplace won't unionize, 90% of these guys are Reagan-freaks.

If my employer didn't give benefits, we'd all leave and go to Met or Pru. That's why they give us benefits ;)

Win,

all this time I though you were being sarcastic... Was I wrong?

If a week from now you get diagnosed with cancer and would need to go through chemo... you will not be worth it to your employer anymore, because you'd be feeling sick and unable to perform. Cobra only lasts so long (1.5 years?)...

If you are not well within 1.5 years, you may as well be dead, because no other insurance will cover your pre-existing condition and unless you are independently wealthy, you will not be able to pay for your health care.

So you have proven, that at the moment, while you are healthy, you are worthy of health care. That is oximoron, because when you are healthy, you don't need health care anyway. As it stands, we do not know if you are worthy of health care tomorrow.

Don't you think it'd be better if you were given proper medical care so that you would go back to doing whatever it is you are doing, once you are in better health?

Yeah, a long time ago. Why does my employer offer me health insurance today? Because I'm worth it.

(Not literature that I am familiar with at all...)

You're not familiar with Ayn Rand? The Fountainhead was college reading for me. Atlas Shrugged was extra credit, I treated it like I did all extra credit.

Nope, I wasn't. Not on any reading list I have ever been given and I haven't come across it by the hand of chance either.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

I had witnessed benefits given in exchange for a promise to not uinionize.

Union was formed anyway and only made things worse, but... that suggestion is very much real life. Not hilarious.

The Wiki entry made it sound like something that I would slog to get through. Is it at least slighly less turgid than it sounds?
