I see many questions on here about how long it takes to get advanced parole and thought I would report on our experience. We just received our permission to travel documents after applying by mail (with our AOS packet) 1 month ago. Unfortunately while the I-485 seems to be active we've still received no word on authorization for employment. We're hoping that comes soon because she's going stir crazy with no driver's license.

It will arrive together with your AP. There are some reasons why it was delayed. But don't worry it will arrive soon =) Your spouse can apply for driver's license anytime. It doesn't require AOE for her to be able to apply one.

You should have the work permit within two months.

In the meantime, many states will allow her to apply for her driver's license by showing the NOA1 as proof she is legally in the U.S. Others require the EAD, and I guess some even require the GC.

Yeah, that's the way SD is, I've already talked to them. She basically had a driver's license for the first 3 months she was here on her I-94. But it was only valid for the length of her I-94. Once that expired, she lost it and now can't get it back until she gets her EAD. They did say that in place of the actual EAD they would accept notification the EAD or GC had been approved. They specifically said they will not accept an NOA1.
