I am waiting for my fiancee to interview with the consul in Rio this upcoming November. I have been hearing lots of negative feedback with regards to their "attitude" and process. Specially a couple of the consuls. Becuase of this, my worries are growing and becoming really stress. My most concern is for the following:

I met my fiancee online a year ago. We have traveled twice to Brazil. My concern is how the consul will see our relationship being the fact we only "know" each other for only one year - and met online..

I am worry they will make her life complicated and very much concern denied her K1.

Once upon a time, meeting someone online was seen as 'different.' This is not the case any longer, it is quite common nowadays (although there are IMBRA rules in place for certain types of online marriage sites).

If you haven't already - check out the reviews section for Embassies/Consulates for more VJ member's feedback specific to Rio.

My fiance had no trouble at the Rio consulate. Just be sure you have all of the necessary paperwork completed. We provided a lot of pictures, phone bills, and emails, but I don't think they even really looked at those things. I wasn't able to attend the interview with my fiance, but if you can go it would probably really help. In our situation, we met 15 years ago, but had only seen each other twice (once for 6 weeks) since then. We met the requirement for having seen each other within 2 years, filed our petition, and then spent several weeks together while waiting for nOA2. I think you will be okay with just a couple of visits as long as you have other evidence. Good luck!

We will be going through the Rio embassy as well. I have read here that they send the permanent visas through another department of the embassy that actually behaves in a professional and respectful manner. Our experience trying to get a tourist visa thru there was horrific due to the "attitude" of some disrespectful overempowered deskjockey.

GL in November.

Hi,

They were all polite and very easy to deal with. I have nothing to complain about, besides they could give us coffee! The Consul did not ask to see my emails, photos, phone calls and so on... What's important to realize is, they are there doing their job, not being good people, they have to treat everybody with no feelings, this is why people may think they are rude, but you shouldn't expect a Consul interviewing you to give you a Visa to USA to be kind and soft. Once you have it in mind, you can deal with with no stress.

Here is the copy of a post I made on other thread, hope it helps you. If you have any questions about Rio Embassy, I would do my best to help.

Wish you good luck!

Beinha

"Hi guys,

Let me start here... I know that, due my short timeline some people are really not nice with me and even send me PM saying bad stuff but anyway here I am. From the bottom of my heart I would really like that everybody could be lucky as we were but as it's not our choice. All I can do is pray for you all and wish you all my best.

I just had my interview and my approval and I would like to share a few things to try to help you all or, at least, tell you what happened that day:

- A guy that had his interview before me, he stayed there 45 min and after that, he went to another room, and they called his fiance in USA, and after one and a half hour, he was still waiting. At the end (almost 4 hours later) he got a denied. Facts: he is 24, she is 34, he has quit his job. period. From the waiting time until the end, I can tell you, they are the real thing but seems like he forgot the Federal Police Certificate - which the Consul said it's
"ok, you can send it later while we process your case"
- and the fact that he has quit his job, it was HUGE on them. We could heard the Consul asking him:
"How did you quit your job? And if you don't get your Visa, who is going to support you?".
We don't know what happened but he got a denial!

- My interview was okay. Not easy at all, not hard also. He asked me a couple things in Portuguese like
"how did you guys met and when, tell me the story"
, then he asked
"Why do you think he is the one?"
and then he asked me
"Does he speak Portuguese? (...) So if he doesn't I'll assume you are fluent in English and this interview would be in English, any problem?"
. And he did the follow questions in English.

All he asked was about Patrick. How does he like my family and my country, how does his friends and family are about our wedding, why do I think he is the one (again), what his friends think about him and his co-workers (which I said I can't answer, as I'm not there, how would I know?) and if my first USA entry on 1997 was to met "a fiance", if he wants to have kids and when, then he asked our ages and said: wow that's nice, you guys better start some babies soon... that time he was more relaxed - he looked into my eyes like he has no soul, very intimidate - and he said: Beatriz, your papers are perfect, all requirements we asked are provided, your visa is approved, welcome to the United States of America, congratulations on your engagement and good luck on your marriage.

After that, the other Consul could answer a few questions: there is no secret on the sealed envelope, just our blood test, doctor's form and a few forms from the Embassy. He also said there is no need to have your x-ray with you, you can put it on your luggage and maybe they would ask on
AOS
but probably they would never ask, just in case, keep it. There is nothing to avoid you to enter to USA. Nobody can stop you at the POE. He was very clear about that. He also said: if the officer do not know what to do on your k-1 visa, or ask you to fill tons of forms, ask him for his boss.

That's it guys, I know it's not much but that's my entire experience. I'm sorry if my English is not that good, and once more, I hope it helps.

Beinha & Patrick

Thank you all for your support and information. I have forwarded the information to my fiancée for her own edification and peace of mind. I have also open another topic that regards to K journey and feedback, assistance/help for those still in the process. If you have experience or in the process of a K1 in Rio de Janeiro and wish to post your advice, experience or looking for someone’s assistance feel free to droop your notes.

Be Blessed,

V.P.

You know what? The most important thing considering our safety is about the hotels!! OMG, you can't imagine how BAD they are. When I was there waiting to go to the airport, I made a friend there at Embassy, he is from Airforce and he was like, the only place that you can stay near here is the CAXAMBU Hotel. He said is nice and not expansive but all the others - Othon, Carioca... - are really not good places for girls like us, "if you know what I mean" (those were his words). I don't have the info from Caxambu Hotel, at Flamengo but it should be easy to google for.

My life is perfect now, I'm here with my love and everything is great! I feel blessed, thank you God for all your plans, they are way better than I could have ever asked for.
