My husband is filing for adjustment of my status. His citizenship was acquired through his parents. He has a US passport. He obtained a certificate of citizenship in his own name, but misplaced it.

Form I-130(petition for alien relative) has 13th question: If u are a US citizen, complete the following: My citizenship was acquired through :

Parents. Have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your own name?

1.Yes. Give certificate number, date, place of issuance

2. No

If he answers Yes (without number, date, place) we risk of stopping the process and waiting 1 year for renewal of certificate. Can answer No, make an even bigger risk in the process

as i understood from some people, passport was enough for interview, but ....?

Answer question 1 by telling them he has a certificate of naturalization but has misplaced it. It'd help if he could give the date and location that he was sworn in, though.

A US passport is an acceptable way to prove US citizenship, but I would have him file for a replacement certificate pronto (form N 565). Where are you getting the idea that it'll take a year to replace his certificate?

Too bad he didn't scan and keep an electronic copy of his natz certificate. ALWAYS recommended for all important USCIS docs.

WOW. Is possible he can get this info at an INFOPASS appointment? I have no clue, either way - but suggest to try.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
