I never thought I'd see the day when charles was the beneficiary of a Kumbaya moment.

Ewok, can you link to any of the new moderator's posts that would indicate his ability to act in the capacity of a moderator? A post where he demonstrated his ability to be impartial or dispassionate? A post where he was able to diffuse a situation rather than inflame it? A post where he displayed the ability to write a well thought-out argument to either support or defend an argument? A post where he demonstrates the basic maturity you'd expect from somebody who acts in the capacity of moderating a discussion?

Because here's what I've found. Actually I found a lot more, but VJ imposes a quoted blocks limit. So, here's just a select random few.

Haha. You're already a sweetie. You can't imagine some of the abuse we take in PM's. Especially the female mods. There are certain types of males on this board who don't take kindly to females telling them what they can and cannot do. It's amazing.

I can't imagine you're serious about wanting stale timbits but, if you are, PM me your address. lol

And to think there's a whole subculture of men who actually pay for that to occur...

These are just a few selected posts between yesterday and today. There's a whole slew of them, and I went back as far as my eyes could stand the bleeding to try to find a single post that showed any kind of moderating ability whatsoever. I found nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing even close. Oh, I found plenty of posts that should have been moderated by, you know, a person actually capable of moderating, but I found nothing that showed any predilection towards the ability to moderate. Was there absolutely nobody else more qualified? Was there absolutely nobody else who demonstrates the sort of consistency, judgment, and maturity we should all expect from a moderating team member? Hell, I can think of at least 3 off the top of my head.

It's your website, and your decision of course. If this is well and truly the direction you want to take VJ, it's your right of course. But this is a benefit to the membership in the way that very large icebergs are of benefit to 18th century passenger ships. This decision is offensive to anybody who wants to see actual moderation done in a sensible and thoughtful way. I am sorely disappointed.

Please, at least do us the favor of some kind of non-weasel-word-laden response. Some kind of explanation that won't make our heads explode, because right now it seems to make about as much sense to me as something that makes absolutely no sense at all.

zomg the horror of it all. friendly banter amongst friends is spotlighted to cast shadows on my character and abilities! how shall i survive the shame?

For me, this is a prime reason why Charles shouldn't be put in any position of authority on this site.

to put your concerns, and others, to rest, i do not intend to "mod" you, mox and a few others. those issue will be passed to the moderating team to deter any concerns about past issues.

I think credibility is more of a concern for you in this context, than for me.

Yeah, I get that's the point everyone is trying to make.

I've sort of decided that being made a mod on Vj is like American politics. Nobody thinks anybody is good enough and everybody can cite examples of why people are a poor choice. Not a job for anybody with a thin skin.

I do think Charles is going to have to back off with the trash talk. It might be part of his personality but it's got no place in moderating.

Personally I'm going to be anxious to see how impartial he can be on issues he's got a personal firm stance on. He's not known to be very 'good' at seeing the other side of coins. And I don't have a problem with stating that because I can be bull-headed also.
