I called NVC today and they sent out our file to Guz on 9-29, i got a email stating our noa2 was approved 10-6 but when I got the hard copy it was approved 9-21, So how long will it be before my fiance receives #3 and when do you think our interview might be?

Now comes the bizarre part - GUZ actually opening up the casefile.

There's been some strange movement recently where the physical casefile, for a K-1, isn't sent half the time - instead, it's sent, electronically , SOLELY, via the NVC/DOS SAFEFILE system. If that's the case - she'll get a P-3 sent out fairly quickly (if in fact, already ).

The way to check it all, is to call the DOS hotline, get a human, and ask for status.

But - GUZ is strange - if they already have opened the casefile, it may or may NOT have that as status at DOS.

GUZ/DOS share the same data, thank god - so -

when you're calling in -

ASK FOR :

1. current status

2. last 3 status changes, with the date/time stamps of each status change.

Do that daily, twice a day, for about 3 weeks - and you'll run across some strange 'status changes' at GUZ, and the DOS rep really won't know which is the 'current status'...

anyway - GOOD LUCK - you've got one big step with the P-3 stuff - and then the interview itself.

Warmest Regards...

PS - check yer PMs :D

ah - sorry - it could be one of 2 paths:

1. DHL to warehouse - figure 1 to 3 months before GUZ will open the casefile.

2. SAFEFILE (solely) - figure 1 to 2 weeks before GUZ will open the casefile.

So if the casefile got shipped via DHL, then expect a longish wait.

CALL DOS at this point, get some status..

GOOD LUCK !

How to gain 3 weeks of time ...

Keep calling DOS every day - when there's a status of 'P3 sent' -

then SHE can send in, prefably via EMS, all of the P-3 docs.

There's a list up at the GUZ website - see http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/fo...and_packets.htm

USUALLY, it takes 2 to 3 weeks for yer lass to receive the documents from the Consulate - but...

as long as DOS states 'P3 sent' - she can send em out to the IV UNIT , make sure she sends it out VIA EMS (and have her write down the EMS tracking number ) -

to

United States Consulate General Guangzhou

IV Unit

1 Shamian South Street

Guangzhou, 510133 PRC

but - 'P3 sent' status is even convoluted - as it's not really the date that it went out the door - it's the date that it was PEGGED to be 'sent out'. Once that date is set, the P3 packet still has to be bundled up, then it goes to the mailroom (where it may wait for another week) then China Post Picks it up. so it's possible that the GUZ IV unit might actually receive your lass's P3 packet, from her, before the 'regular packet' gets outta the mailroom. And That's OK.

As I recall, you have a need for speed - so shaving 3 weeks at the P3 stage, for you, should be useful. For now, prep the P3 documents with HER, then call DOS every day, checking for 'P3 sent' status, and have her send em out via EMS.

I did call Dos today and they told me that Guz has not received the file, and that was all. What can I do at this point, I would like to start planning for my trip to China. I guess I just dont ask the right questions, can someone tell me how I would know or find out if my file was sent by safefile.

The NVC question for safefile :

Was my casefile sent out SOLELY via SAFEFILE, or was it sent out via DHL? and if sent out via DHL, what date?

Nota.Bene.: ASK NVC, not DOS. DOS knows nothing of SAFEFILE, NVC knows about it.

FWIW, I addressed this in a PM on the 11th of October - have a look?

Tom - she'll return the DS-230 part I AND the OF-169 , plus an EMS mailing label.

The instructions are IN the OF-169.

She'll bring in an I-134 with supporting documents, plus the rest of the stuff listed on the OF-169 (and the medical packet ).

re:English names of the schools. I have no real answer, but a small suggestion - she can ask her classmates from the various schools, and the admin ppl at the schools also. Surely, between them all, something is bound to get translated?
