Canadian police clearance check !!!

Once the petition is sent to the embassy, we are supposed to get our police clearances, thats what I am aware of. For Canadian police clearance, how do I go about ? Can I get it from a local police station or is it necessary to get it done from RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)?

Local police is fine as long as it is a Canada wide name check. The document MUST have CPIC on it or state that it is a search of the National Records Repository on it. Anything else won't be accepted by the embassy

Both myself (K-1) and my daughter (K-2) went to the RCMP detachment and got our Canadian Police Certificate done while we waited. I think they cost about $35.00 each.

It says at the top (Canadian Police Certificate for Visa Applicants/Foreign Travel/Foreign Work Permits).

I had mine done at the Toronto Police Station, Montreal accepted it with no issues

I believe the police certificate is valid for one year.

Here ya go! Just look up what province you're in, and then it should list the Detachments for that province! http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/

I know the page for the Hamilton detachment in Ontario also lists what you need to bring when you go to get it... so I would think that all of them would, too.

I went to the local RCMP detachment in St. Albert, just outside of Edmonton. Canada wide check, and good to go in 72 hours.

You can get a police check done anywhere, but ensure it's a Canada Wide check. This is only true if you have no criminal record though. If you do have a record, you need to have fingerprinting done, and your check is done in Ottawa, and can take up to 90 days or more to process.
