If anyone could help. I have posted these questions a few times and not getting any response. Maybe no one has had a joint sponsor that was a family member and needed to fill out I-864A. If anyone has I would really appreciate your help as I can't send the papers to my husband in Egypt until I get this question answered

On page 3 of the I-864A question number 13 it says I THE SPONSOR and I know I put my name there and then it says I PROMISE TO COMPLETE AND FILE AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT ON BEHALF OF THE FOLLOWING __________ and it ask you to indicate a number does anyone know what I put in this place as far as a number? Im not sure about that.

I really need help with this because I cannot send anything to my husband until I know what number they are talking about putting here thanks.

Also a new question I was told to look at line 22 on tax returns and this is where you get the total amount income and this is what you put on the I-864A for annual income but someone just told me that u look at the amount on the W-2 and this amount is different then line 22 anyone know the right answer to this? I just want to know when looking for total income for the year am I looking on the tax return line 22 TOTAL INCOME or am I looking at the W2 form for that year?

this is for the number of individuals you are sponsoring, if your husband is the only beneficiary then put 1.

on your second question, the annual income for I-864A (question # 10) should be for this current year, your annual income for 2008, you should be able to find that in your paycheck stubs.. if you're looking for federal income tax information (question #11) on I-864A then refer to line 37 on Form 1040 (adjusted gross income)

hope this answers your question.. good luck with your case

I can see where your confusion comes from...From the directions with the I-864a "My total income (adjusted gross income on IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported on my Federal tax returns for the most recent three years was ? It says show your ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME IF USING 1040EZ and if NOT then your TOTAL INCOME from your federal tax form which is line 22. Line 37 on the 1040 is AFTER DEDUCTIONS that is why it is called adjusted gross income. Don't confuse instructions for 1 form (1040EZ) as applicable to the other form (1040).

The government is in the habit of making things too difficult, but don't let it confuse others. As one person states on this site ... "Read Carefully" "Interpret Literally"

Why the instruction were not written in PLAIN ENGLISH is a mystery to me....It could have simply said "Enter your total income from line 22 of the 1040 form or your adjusted gross income from the 1040EZ and caused a lot less confusion.
