Okay, so I just got my NOA2 09/30 (no hard copy yet) for both my wife and my stepson. I get the whole LingChe thing for my wife, but what are the similar steps that I take for my stepson? Some concerns that I wonder about:

1. I understand that I only pay the I-864 fee for both, but do I send 2 I-864s? How will that work?

2. How do I carry out the change of agent for my stepson (9 years old)? Does my wife designate me on his behalf?

3. Any tips on how best to keep the two applications together as they go through NVC?

4. Any "gotchas" you guys can think of that I haven't even considered?

I would appreciate any links in the wiki that you know of. Or links to prior threads where these issues are addressed. (Or respond here in this thread, of course :)

Thanks in advance.

Mark :)

1. I understand that I only pay the I-864 fee for both, but do I send 2 I-864s? How will that work? YES! They are 2 separate petitions. Double everything.

2. How do I carry out the change of agent for my stepson (9 years old)? Does my wife designate me on his behalf? YEP! She signs the DS 230 for him also.

3. Any tips on how best to keep the two applications together as they go through NVC? Submit their papers in 2 separate envelopes in 1 package.

4. Any "gotchas" you guys can think of that I haven't even considered?

Hi Haole. Thanks for the quick reply.

I will now reference the numbers above:

1. 2 separate petitions, but one fee, right? Will I get two separate "cover letters" to include with the separate packets? Even if I go online and pay online, or is there a mechanism on the online payment page, where I can indicate both case numbers? What are the mechanics of this part? (Folks who have petitioned for both parents have probably experienced a similar issue).

2. So, if I am filing the change of agent by email, I will just give NVC her email for both her case and his case and then send both change of agents from the same account, or should we use separate accounts?

3. Thanks for the advice.

Mark :)

Bad news is 2 separate fees. $400 each? I forgot. Child no need the $70 tho. I'm not familiar with the emailing as when I did the trip you couldn't email plus there wasn't any Ling Che.

For clarification:

I knew the visa app fee was 2 separate. My question only concerns the I-864 (AOS).
