My wife will be sponsoring my son (who lives in Canada with my EX) as her stepson. I was told that she could file for a K3 visa for him after the processing center receive the I130.

What would that do for him? Would he still need to go to Montreal for an interview to get this visa? (He live in Ontario)

Do all visa's (including a student visa) require a trip to Montreal?

Thanks

LPR since 2003 and will be applying for Naturalization soon. Currently working on I-130 for my son.

He would have to goto MTL as they handle all the immigrant visa's and the K1/K3's for eastern canada. I think all the other non-immigrant class visas can be done through ottawa and TO as far as I know but everything else goes to MTL.

There are only 2 consulates in Canada that do interviews for family based visas, so yes, your child would have to go to Montreal.

IR1/CR1/IR5

All IR1 /CR1 and IR5 visas will be processed/interview at Montreal.

K Visas

K visas are processed/interviewed at both Montreal and Vancouver, depending on your Province of Residence:

Manitoba and West: Vancouver

Ontario and East: Montreal

As for student visas etc - most consulates can issue those.

Hi CdnMN....how old is your son? mine was 16 when we went thru the visa process. We went with the K3/K4 (wishing that we would've gone with the CR1/CR2 process as it would be nice for my son to have a SSN and be able to work!)....he was listed on the I-130 then again on the I-129F, his K4 visa status is a derivative of my K3. We both had to go for the interview in Vancouver and he needed the medical, criminal background check, etc due to his age. If you need more info, feel free to PM me....

Good luck!
