Great you are learning Hindi, kaushalia! The best way to learn a language is to SPEAK it. I suggest first learning a few phrases and using them often around the house, every day. Then expand from there. That's how I learned Telugu while in India. We still speak probably 70-80% Telugu at home, even though hubby wants me to speak more English with him so he will get more fluent. But I love speaking Telugu so much and don't want to forget the language!

 the problem with just speaking it at home is i live alone. so no one to listen. of course, i haven't even opened the case. i remember some phrases from when i worked there, and everyone was so excited to teach me. of course hindi was combined with punjabi. and on top of that, my best friend's in-laws are cambodian, and try to teach me too. after awhile, all of the languages (hindi, punjabi, and kmai <- cambodian) all blend together

=)) Then you will be speaking hinpunjmai (hindi, punjabi and kamai) :P

My husband knows most of the cuss words, so there is no point in calling names to him. Though he is getting used to me using words like -- oye, poda, ennadi, ayieoo rama swami, isshh.

My husband's name is Joe, but sometimes just to tease him I call him -- Jogarao  he doesn't like it, I don't care, deal with whatever I call you

Hey everyone.... I am American and my husband is Nepali... we pretty much speak Neplish, lol... My Nepali grammar is poor but I know enough vocabulary to figure out the gist of a conversation. Govi's English is good but he does speak with a pretty heavy accent(which I love but can be hard to understand if you are not used to it).

We live in Queens, NY, which probably has every desi community you can imagine, no shortage of desi khana here... One day this weekend (probably Columbus Day) we want to go to Richmond Hill for some Indo-Caribbean food, chutney CDs and Bollywood DVDs 3/$10... :)

Hey Pattu great to see you here! We're trying to make the South Asia forum ROCK like MENA! :star:

Is your hubby working long hours at his new cooking job? Did he get the 10-year green card as expected?

Tomorrow is hubby's birthday and he has the day off, don't know what we are doing yet. You know Indians - not much planning and everything is spur of the moment! He took 2 driving classes already and wants to practice, so I might (FINALLY) take him out this weekend for the first time in my car. I am SO scared!
