Brown Slumps to 3rd as Election Timetable Published

Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s ruling Labour Party fell to third place in an opinion poll for the first time since 1982 as activists received a campaign timetable pointing to a May 6 general election in the U.K.

Both Conservatives and Liberal Democrats led Labour in the Ipsos-Mori Ltd. survey finished Sept. 27 and published today. An internal document distributed at the ruling party’s annual conference sets out a day-by-day schedule for building support, suggesting a four-week election campaign beginning in April. No date has been fixed for the vote, which must be held by June.

The poll shows Labour supported by 24 percent of voters, compared with 25 percent for the Liberal Democrats and 36 percent for the Conservatives. Ipsos-Mori surveyed 1,003 adults. No margin of error was given.

Gordon Brown has no excuses. He was Chancellor of the Exchequer under Tony Blair, and is now Prime Minister in his stead. Fiscal responsibility for the UK's plight in the Global Economic Meltdown rests entirely at his feet for the lamebrained fiscal mismanagement he has perpetuated for the last 12 years.

It will be his just desserts if, at the next General Election, Labour ended up third in what has, for the past 80 years, basically been a two party system.

If the Conservatives (and the other parties) fails to get a majority in May, what sort of coalition are we looking for? Labour I am sure will still be in the catbird's seat, whether it forms a govenment along with the Tories, or the Libs. Or, do we end up with a three-way power sharing government?

What is the history of the British Parlement in such cases?

What is the history of the British Parliament in such cases?

With the percentage lead they have now, the Conservatives are looking at an outright majority in Parliament.

A Labour-Conservative coalition government is about as likely as a friendly Yankees vs Red Sox baseball match.

The last Conservative government fell when the Ulster Unionists withdrew their support and they lost a working majority in Parliament.

Any coalition government will be one of the two main parties allying with the Liberal Democrats.

The UK has never, in peacetime, had to suffer a true coalition government.

If the Liberal Democrats become part of a government, the face of UK politics is likely to change forever, as they will insist on a form of proportional representation being implemented, which will likely preclude the UK enjoying a single-party government again.

They are all shite. Having said that, i want to see Brown and his useless, lefty, socialist, scum sucking, anti-british f*cktards out of power and thrown into jail for the crimes they have committed against the UK. That country needs a complete overhaul. Bring back Maggie.

Maggie? Why am I not surprised?

I take it you don't like Cameron then, seeing as he is the current conservative leader? He's only slightly less wet behind the ears than Obama, but I think I'd take that over an octagenarian who was washed up before they booted her out in favour of the 'grey man' ;)

Maggie? Why am I not surprised?

...because she was a good PM. That is why you are not surprised. Glad I could help in clearing that up for you :D

We haven't had a good PM for over 50 years...

Like her or dislike her, Margaret Thatcher was the right PM at the right time. From 1979 and the aftermath of the Winter of Discontent, through 1987, her government laid the foundations of a more stable economy, a less fractious workforce and a country that regained a little lost pride in the world. I'll admit, I liked her and think she was the only sane choice in 3 General Elections. Toward the end, she got off-track and held on a little too long, but she did what was needed and didn't back down from a fight, national or international.

I could never have voted for Labour under Michael Foot, and the Longest Suicide Note in Political History in 1983, nor under the Welsh Windbag, Neil Kinnock, in 1987. In 1992, the choice was awful and neither John Major, nor Kinnock was worth voting for. The greatest shame was that John Smith sadly passed away before he could be tested at an election. He was a genuinely visionary politician, unlike the talking head who became his successor. I could never vote for Tony Blair, because he was all talk and no trousers. It was a pity he faced no viable opposition. And Gordon is a moron.

As for the Tories, if they had made Ken Clarke leader, I'd have voted for them. I don't know where David Cameron stands on the issues and I'm in the wrong country to care enough to research them. The Liberal Democrats? If they gain a foothold in government, the UK will be damned with a proportional representation electoral system and we'll never be rid of them. Ugh.
