I was looking at the I-134 form and it asks about stocks and bonds. Would I list the stocks and bonds in my 401K even if I can't touch that money until I retire or leave the company I am currently working for?

When it asks about the Life Insurance it asks about the amount and the cash surrender amount? Does the cash surrender amount mean how much is paid out if I die? I thought that was the amount of my life insurance, and not sure why the cash surrender amount would be different. I have never heard of this and thinking it may mean something else.

You wouldn't list any of these unless your current income falls below the poverty level. I suspect you are currently not making less than the poverty level if you work for a company that has a 401k. Are you?

The short answer is - 'don't use this type of 'investment' or if you do, you'd need to list the liquid value (after fees/penalties).

These fields (bank accounts, investments, assets, etc) are optional fields that can be left blank - if your income is sufficient, you do not need to disclose these optional items.

My income is above what is needed for the purpose of sponsoring him. So does this also mean I do not need to get a letter from my bank?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

You are almost there and now you have to deal with the embassy. This is the place to post your experiences or questions related to this last step before moving to the US. Topics relating to I-134's, packets sent from consulate and medical & police certificates should be posted here.

Improved USCIS Form G-325A (Biographic Information)

Form field input font changed to allow entry of dates in the specified format and to provide more space for addresses and employment history. This is the 6/12/09 version of the form; the current version is 8/8/11, but previous versions are accepted per the USCIS forms page.

That is correct - unless there is an Embassy/Consulate-specific requirement, you do not need to disclose this type of information (most will only do so if/when their earnings are below the minimum requirement and they are using these 'optional' fields to make up the difference).
