South Kingstown (WPRI) - On Thursday morning a South Kingstown resident turned in a loaded AK-47 rifle to the police station after witnessing two children playing with it on the street.

The AK-47’s attached banana clip contained 16 rounds of ammunition. Police say the loaded rifle was submitted by local resident Mark Smith. Smith declared that he first spotted the gun being used as a toy by two 12 year old boys.

He was traveling along Route 108 by the Meadowbrook Apartments when he observed two young men playing what allegedly appeared to be “Army” with the loaded weapon.

When Smith realized that the twelve year olds were playing with a real firearm he stopped, removed the dangerous weapon, cleared the chamber of a live round and without delay brought it to the South Kingstown police station.

At this time, police officers are attempting to locate the two young gentlemen who had been using the loaded AK-47 as a game piece.

WHERE DID THESE KIDS OBTAINED THE GUN?

bigger question where were 12 year old boys parents? why were they not supervised? all children need supervision no matter who's kids they are

if they can not answer that then assume they got the gun from home

just my opinion

sara

Sara, you've got to be kidding right?

Your mom and Dad watched your every move at 12 years old?

Now it's very possible the Gun did come from one of their homes... which should be a reminder to all gun owners.... even if your kid is "trustworthy" ...his friends probably aren't; SECURE YOUR GUNS.

Many kids who grow up around guns are not all that fascinated by them but kids who don't have guns at home often are and will do very risky things just to hold one.

Though I must say, I knew of more kids who hurt themselves with simple gasoline than anything else.
