Hey everyone.. Well I have everything together and Im double checking everything.. Just waiting to fill up my roll of film to get some good recent pics. But after looking at the i-129f, I just want to be sure about something..This is a lil embarrassing because I asked this question before, a while ago when I first started researching the k-1. but since you all say no question is a dumb question, I'll ask again because I want to add more clarification since I wasnt as specific the first time. I asked before if I should include an alternative spelling of my fiancees first name, a common mispelling of her real name, where they ask for "other names used." Many people add one "n" to Jenifer for the more typical spelling. she often uses the misspelling too, on a personal basis(cards, letters, etc) among family an friends. I didnt mention it in my fist post since that would really be considered a nickname and just for personal use. with that reasoning, id have to put "jen" too.. She likes her family and friends to spell it this way also.. Personally I love originality, and would much rather she just uses the real spelling, I like it better. But I guess she just got tired of people misspelling it all her life and decided to go with the flow.

But on all official documents and papers, etc. she spells it the real way. Or atleast so I thought. When going over the packet, she told me she usually used the misspelling on her name tags at tradeshows where she worked as a translator. On top of that, on most of our evidence, cards, letters, we spelled her name Jennifer instead. I sent a few things where I spelled it the real way, trying to prove that it looked nice :) lol.. but not much. But we also used Jen of course, So I still dont think it matters that much. But would it look like I dont know her well enough to spell her name right?

Id like to put it on there, since she did use it at work, on name tags, on top of being used on our letters, cards, etc. which we will take to the interview, but what concerns me is that someone mentioned after my original post, that it could very well confuse our good friends at the service center since they are only asking for additional surnames and maiden names. Im probably going way overboard with this, but it seems many of you get RFEs or major snags over the tiniest of details.

So are you guys absolutely sure its only for surnames, maiden names, etc, even under these circumstances?

My guess is you should use the real spelling, as it is. That's the one that shows in her passport and ID documents, am I correct? If they bring it up in the interview (guessing again), she'd be able to clarify why you guys mispell her name...

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

If she has never used a different spelling of her name on an official document then there is no need to list it on the I-129F.

Good example: My daughter's name is Kristin Nicole Johnson

The family calls her Nicki and sends letters, cards and such to her in that name.

However every official record always uses her first name.

She would not put Nicki on a I-129F as a different name.

Dont confuse a already very confused and behind schedule worker at the service center.

USCIS wants official other names, not names that are the result of a misspelling. If you spell it correctly on your I-129F, they should also record it correctly. When you receive your NOA1, it will list your name and the beneficiarie's name. Make certain the spelling is correct. If it is not, contact USCIS using your receipt number and set them straight.

Thanks for your replies everyone!

I may not have been clear enough in my first post, I wasnt going to put it down as her name.. Im asking if it should be used as an "other name used". its a seperate question.

On the ds -156 document she needs to fill out for the consulate it asks the same question but is more specific and asks for other first and middle names used.. the first time she filled out the forms for her tourist visa she put it as another name used, on the forms and had no problems. she didnt know it was for only for official names. I want everything to match up though, from form to form.. If she put it down as "another name used"once before on the form, doesnt that mean she should do it again even if she didnt have to the first time?

People keep telling me it will confuse them by puting it down, but how much harm could it possibly do by adding it, just to be on the safe side? are we talking a couple minutes of confusion or actual snags?

As a standard, when doing the name checks, they will use all the various spellings of the name. IMO, whilst I dont believe that nick names apply with this question if not used on official documents....if any evidence you are submitting has the other spelling, I would be inclined to put it down in other names used.
