It would be difficult to get a job if she has zero experience.

In general, hospitals are hiring so much less new grads at this moment.

There are many RNs working as a server etc and looking for a job at the same time.

She would be able to find a RN position eventually, but RN is not a guaranteed job anymore.

Depends on which state she plans on working, sis.

I'm an RN too in PI and still struggling to get a health-care related job here in PA.

I've sent applications to numerous health agencies and nobody called me back yet.

I'm still working on my NCLEX. So, I really need to pass that to be able to work.

If she's an NCLEX passer already, it would be a plus if she's US-certified for Basic Life Support.

If she works on a state that she's not licensed yet, she needs to check the state's BON if they do interstate endorsements or else, she needs to do the NCLEX exam again.

It would be much better if she submit applications on different hospitals or nursing homes rather than getting an agency.

Getting agencies that would sponsor her in coming to the US on a work visa are slim, since it's still recession here in the US.

She may also try putting up a resume on sites like monster.com and careerbuilder.

With the working experience, it would be a plus but it's not really necessary.

Since US hospitals are more advanced when it comes to technology, they usually do orientation for newly hired nurses until they learn how to operate certain medical devices.

Good Luck to your sister!

Just read about someone who graduated with a nursing degree from John's Hopkins University (great school) and couldn't get a job. She was ticked off, because she continuously heard over and over again in news media that there is a nurse shortage in the USA.

Lesson learned: never trust the news media

If she is not a registered nurse in the state where she is situated, it is difficult to find a job as an RN.

I am an RN too but they would not even hire me as a nursing assistant without being registered as a CNA here so I had to take the course and state board. I am working as a CNA now and also reviewing for my NCLEX.

First step is to have her Philippine nursing license registered here in America.

Yep, she's already registered and evaluated and now will take NCLEX. the thing is she doesn't have an experience as a nurse??

After the NCLEX exam, can she apply directly to the hospitals here in the US?? or does she need to apply thru an agency in the PI?

thank you so much for all the replies it is really a big help.

do you really need to have an experience as a nurse in the PI before you can apply for a job here in the US??

And also any agencies that y'all guys can refer for my sister to apply for a nurse post here in the US??

That depends on the kind of job and of what state she's in. If she's aspiring to work as RN here in US, she should take and pass the NCLEX-RN to be licensed in US. Work experience in PI is no longer necessary to work as RN in US. Some hospitals and institutions, they require or prefer ceritifications such as BLS, PALS, ACLS etc.

Im a new graduate from philippines.. bacth 2008.. i have zero experience.. just focused on my NCLEX-RN.. now i work as RN in a hospital full time n part time in a nursing rehabilitation.. they will train you if you have no experience... (its hard at first but you will get used to it) and different institution have different requirements... but the most basic they need is the CPR/ BLS for healthcare provider given by the AMERICAN heart association or American red cross..

Getting a working visa to work as a nurse in the US right now is not easy since there are no agencies that would sponsor her to work in the US.

What's in back home is that there are agencies recruiting for nurses for Europe, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.

If there are agencies recruiting nurses for US, don't let your sister be fooled with one.

I have some friends back home who were fooled by a recruiting agency telling them that the recession is not true and US is in fact hiring nurses.

Still up to now, all their working visas are pending.

As of now, US stopped hiring international nurses because of the recession.

Maybe they'll accept nurses after 3-5 years.

It would work if she already passed her NCLEX-RN and be able to be in the US thru a tourist, spousal or fiancee visa.

I think that is her chance as of now.

Having working experience is not really necessary since they orient foreign trained nurses on what to do because the hospital setting here and back home are different.

She needs to be US certified with different life-saving skills like CPR, operating an automated electric defibrillator and so much more.

If she plans to work in Texas, she needs to be licensed in the state of Texas. Check all the requirements that are needed for Texas BON.

I think Texas is participating the Nursing Licensure Compact which means that she can have a multi-state license.

She would be able to work on different states if those states participates on the Nursing Licensure Compact.

Plus, she needs to take a CGFNS exam and an English proficiency test prior to sitting in the NCLEX Exam.

As a general rule, No you don't need work experience before you can work or apply for a job in USA

For you sister, USA is under Retrogression and all the work visa allocated have been used up, and there is about a 5 to 7 year waiting list. She can and should apply for her work visa and let her time tick down

Anyone wanting to work as RN in USA, must pass NCLEX before applying, it will make getting hired easier.

You don't really need to worry about passing NLE in PI, Cuz only 4 states out of 50 state require NLE before taking NCLEX.

California is hurting for nurses

Actually at the moment, Cali Nurese are having hard time finding work.

Places like Texas and other southern states are still short on nurses

Your sister is SOL ($hit Out Of Luck) getting a hired in USA right now, her best bet would be to do a K1 visa and find a job.

There is simply no Visa's available for work for nurse in USA.

Texas does not require CGNFS Exam, they do require to have you transcripts evaluted by a 3rd party institute

You do not have to take a English Profiency Test if your school text books were in English

Also Texas does not require local license before sitting for NCLEX
