Does anyone knows how can my K2 daughter get her insurance either from MedQuest or from my husband's work if they are asking for SSN? They said, I cannot apply for her SSN yet until she's done with her AOS. Unlike me as a K1 visa holder I can request for my SSN already. I'm just worried because I need her to have an insurance while she is here. Of course, we always dont knw when they will get sick or what not. Please advice.

Have you tried speaking to the employer providing the insurance or the insurance company themselves. I had the same question when my wife's daughter came here. I went to my employer and was told that no SSN was required to start the health insurance. I just provided name and birthdate and they signed her up.

It is true about the SSN.

I had no problems to add our children to the policy with my company. No SSN needed. They did ask for an SSN and I told them "none". One of our sons was not even IN the USA yet (K-2 to follow) and he was added. We had to provide copy of our marriage certificate and translated copies of the boys birth certificates. No problems.

Likewise for me. I was on my wife's policy the day after we married with no SSN. In fact, they still don't have my SSN as far as I know. There was no problem.

So if you're being told it's "required" then it's a matter of company policy* either on the part of your husband's employer or the insurance company. If the company absolutely won't budge, you could try asking the SSA for a notice of ineligibility (a certification that she's not eligible to receive an SSN at this time) and see if that helps. I think it's a form SSA-L676 but don't quote me on it...

*Unless there's a HI state law at play here???

I am not sure of the form number either, but the SS office will give you one, no problem. This states that it is impossible for you to qualify for an SSN at this time. The above poster is correct, insurance compaines and/or employers can make their own rules regarding insurance but I would think it is pretty unreasonable to demand an SSN from someone that is incapable of having one.
