hi! I just want to ask what should we prepare for when me & my hubby have our initial interview with USCIS ( for adjustment of status)? Papers, questions... any advice would help...

i'm also confused on the joint account statements, etc. because we didn't change the bank acct., billing statements, etc. yet since I'm still using my maiden name (SSN card has my maiden name printed and I couldn't change it yet not until I have my EAD which I'm still waiting for.. I can't apply for any IDs under my new (husband's) name because of this.)We wanted to wait until I can use my new name.

this isn't related but what does "touched" mean in the timeline?:)

and do you have to copy then paste your timeline everytime you post or is there a way to have it automatically posted?

It seems like you've added your timeline to your signature, so it'll automatically post for you everytime you reply/create a post.

In terms of evidence, just bring anything with you that shows your on going relationship.

Cards, letters ect.. Are you able to ask a few friends to write up a sworn letter about your relationship?

What about pictures? What about health insurance? If you have that bring copies showing you are on it as well as maybe any life insurance you have. Any type of joint accounts could include something as simple as a gym membership

I think IO's understand that it's difficult to get joint things together without a social. If they ask, just explain your situation and

I'm sure they will be understanding.

Sit down with your husband and try and think of things you can bring with you!

Good luck!

i looked at your timeline and saw that you applied for SSN after getting married...why didn't you use your married name then? anyway, you can still get it changed to your married name (just need your marriage cert), no need to wait or your EAD to do that. the EAD is what you need to show WITH your SS card if it has the notation "can work with INS/DHS authorization" on it (can'r remember the exact wording anymore).

touched means, somebody has already looked into your application, depending on how complete and accurate the information you provided, you will get another touch sooner or later, sooner i hope.

You want to bring anything that shows a bona fide relationship. Do you have anything in both of your names? It could even be mail at the same address. If the mail has both of your names on it, even better. It doesn't have to be just financial. Mortgage or lease agreements. car insurance, joint memberships to anything, etc. Affidavits (notarized) can be used, as well as photos.

You just need to show proof of an ongoing legitimate married relationship.

"Touched" really means nothing. I honestly don't know why people make an issue out of it. We had no touches at all on our application and we were approved within 4 months. The online system is very unreliable.

Good luck!

hi! I did apply for my my husband's name when I applied for SSN however, they said that they would use my maiden name first then I could change my SSN when I get my EAD or greencard. As of the moment, the SS officer told me that they could not change it yet even if I am already married. I got confused with this too! It's frustrating. :crying:

medical insurance showing your name and your husband's can be helpful too.

i just had my interview and I brought a lot of stuff - wedding album, wedding invitation, pictures since we started dating, birth certificate, marriage certificate, car insurance with both our names on it, medical insurance card, military ID, letters we wrote for each other, greeting cards, hospital bills when i gave birth, ITIN, SSN card, passports, apartment lease papers even though my name is not on it, proof of residence (letters from friends and online shop receipts).

the IO didn't ask for anything but the marriage cert, passport, my baby's birth certificate. no other questions but the 5 yes/no standard questions from the I-485 and she verified my date of birth and address and full name. :) no "how did you two meet? when and where did you get married? etc..."

regarding your SSN, its pretty weird that they didn't allow you to use your married name even though you're already married.. hmmm... i don't think it will be an issue with the IO on the day of your interview..

think positive. your interview will be a breeze.. :) i'll include you in my prayers. :)

good luck!!! :)
