We spent the day out at the airport, watching the airshow here in Sonoma County. We just finished dinner, and the wife goes into the bathroom to "freshen up", and I hear a blood curdling scream.

"Honey, what's wrong?"

(more wailing and moaning)

"Baby, what's wrong? You okay?"

(she comes out, naked)

"Look!"

"What?"

"My skin!"

"What's wrong?"

"It got darker! I hate it!" showing a slight tanline one her arms.

"Maybe it will come off in the shower. Maybe it's just dirt."

"Good idea! I will scrub really hard!"

"No, wait, don't do that! It will only last a few weeks, maybe a month at most."

"Noooooooooooo!"

I concur, Jean wears a long sleeve hoodie while mowing. I mean it's only one hundred degrees out. Holding an umbrella in one hand!

always worried about skin color, never mind that americans risk skin cancer and spend thousands trying to be that color.......

I would say that it is because ever since we had our first Philippine air , we are already in default setting that Philippine is indeed a hot country that when we get to another place we don't want more heat. So better to just cover up and protect our skin. it's quite ironic though that some filipinas wanted to get whiter, while foreigners esp American women are dying to have a tan skin color.

I love my skin color. A real filipina color.

Though I won't say white isn't pretty, I still adore white people though. When they go to the Phils it seems that they shine through and seems that they are really attractive and neat too. Could be brown, dark or white doesn't really matter, just love for who you really are!

probably that stigma about it being more socially acceptable than darker skin....i blame that on european colonialism that set deep roots in the mindsets of their former subjects....

This is an understatement. Filipina's are outwardly prejudiced against other darker skinned Filipinas. The sale of skin whitening soaps and products is a multi-million dollar industry in the Philippines. Many filipinas have a strong fear of their skin getting dark.

Some Filipino women just don’t want to get darker any further. Case in point, me. I don’t go out in the sun too much, especially at this time of the year in the desert, when the rays of the sun may fry my skin. :star:
