People at DMV have to go by what name is in DHS`s file. Did your wife change her name to what she wanted on her GC applications?

I think if she applies for the green card in the way she wants her name to be FIRST MAIDEN HUSBANDLASTNAME, then she can get her license or ID card in the way her green card is issued. She will have to wait on the GC and perhaps make the change with the DMV later.

thanks for the response...

the teller would only let her use her middle name and my last name....* jane doe smith..--->jane doe mcguire....

if she wanted to use her maiden last name, the teller stated she would have to hyphenate it...

jane doe smith-mcguire...... and we don't want to do that...we showed the teller my wife's eac card and i

believe that is how she came to this conclusion.....

that is what we are hoping...because our aos interview is on the 17th of aug.....

we hope we can finalize any discrepencies with her name there...do you remember at your interview if the

uscis interviewer asked if the name on your I-485 is the name you want on your GC? and if not, they can

change the name at the interview to make sure everything is correct and final?...we are just happy that we have

reached this point in her becoming a U.S. citizen....i would hate to complicate the process... * if a name

change puts her application back in the mix...we just want to move forward... :star:

My husband got a green card without an interview and he didn't change his name, so I can't answer the question. I think you may be stuck with what she put on all her application forms. But it would be a good question to ask at the interview. It seems like if they processed everything Jane Doe Smith or Jane Doe McGuire, then they might not want you to come up with another name at the last minute.

I think if you had done all of your applications as Jane Smith McGuire and put under other names used Jane Doe Smith, Jane Doe McGuire then USCIS might have processed everything in that name. But perhaps they can change all the records in all the databases your applications have passed through up to the interview if you ask.

By the way...it's not uncommon in the US for a woman who marries to become FIRSTNAME MAIDENNAME HUSBANDNAME. My info is that way on my driver's license and bank account. I actually have things both ways. But I can understand where immigration puts restraints on state driver's license offices to be very careful when giving photo id to aliens to make sure that they are legal and that license does not extend past the date they are legal. This has all come about recently because of the crack downs on illegal immigration.
