Ok, so we are sending off our fiance visa application.

Now with the statement of intent should we write a story each of how we met, warts n' all? or do they literally mean some sort of declaration stating ' I am in love with a US/UK Citizen* (delete as appropriate) and I entend to marry Him/Her*

we dont want to be all gushy if they are looking for a short statement, however we dont want to be to formal if they want a romantic insight to our meeting to clarify this isnt going to be some marriage of convenience.

There is nothing conveniant about this process I can tell you, and correct me if i'm wrong but it looks like about a 5 month wait?

please help...we want to get this right.

when you go through the fiancee visa process for a USC coming to the UK, the UK citizen has to provide a letter showing that they are aware and can confirm the intention to marry. Is this what you are talking about ?. If so I would use something like this...

To Whom it may concern,

This is to confirm that I, Joe Blogs, intend to marry Jane Bloggs on the 14th Oct 2006. We intended to marry

in the [Country] on the [date], at the [Venue].

If you require any more information please do not hesitate to contact me

Yours sincerely

Mr Joe Bloggs

If you are getting married in a church you could also get a copy of the reservation letter, showing that you have a venue booked. It will always help to have some defenite dates, and to show evidence of them.

Or you can use the example 'letter of intent' as many have.

Marren and Jamie,

'statement of intent' does not mean either 'life history' or 'declaration of love'.

Intent = a conceived plan to act in a certain way or perform a certain action. Write a statement of what is it you plan to do. Since it's a fiance(e) visa you're after, the expected plan is to get married after obtaining the visa and entering the USA (then adjust status to become a LPR).
