IMO as far as the leash goes I think there is situations where it might be justified but 9 out of 10 times I see a unruly kid that seems to have had very little discipline and the leash is just used to make the parents life easier, simply wrong. I have seen well behaved kids that don't need these leashes. I think it says a lot about there parenting and I personally would be embarrassed to use these on my kids.

Have you every had a two-year-old? There's a reason why they call them the terrible twos. I used to judge people, too, on the behavior of their children. My daughter is certainly not the best behaved two-year-old, but she is actually relatively well behaved. Still, sometimes I feel like karma is biting me on the azz after all those times I rolled my eyes at "bad parenting."

And children are absolutely at their worse in the presence of their parents out in public. Take their parents and/or the public out of the equation, and they are often little angels. That's the case with my daughter as well as with most of my nieces and nephews. There are a few who are just b-a-d, but most of them shape up when their parents leave. My parents and siblings and my daughter's teachers all say she is very well behaved, but she embarrasses the hell out of me in public sometimes and she's a sassy little thing at times when it's just the two of us.

You make some good points, I will take them into consideration the next time I see this situation.

Are you expecting to?

children on a leash... sigh yes I do expect to see that again, unfortunately a majority of the people dont see this as a bad idea. My response was was too kids on a leash and not to the video. If you werent so quick to try to poke fun at me you might of noticed that.

looking up...do you have an alternative to suggest?

I think the leash is silly, but I do think it's a good idea for a child that is too heavy to carry around everywhere and doesn't like being pushed around in their stroller, but only if you're in a crowded place like a fair or theme park or something. A Verizon store? Stupid place to use a leash. I think it actually gives them a sense of independence because they're allowed to walk around.

A alternative, well no not under the specific situations that have been brought up in this thread, I did say -

I did concede that there was situations that it might be justified but for the most part I see it alot like using videos as a babysitter. Its more about making that parents life easier than it is about the welfare of the child. I think outside of the situations where its overcrowded and almost impossible to keep a eye on your child you should not use a leash.

Why do you think I was poking fun at you, looking up?

My babysitters aways used duct tape on me. In my later years, it has turned into quite a fetish.

I bet you wish you had my babysitter.

omg...I am becoming compelled to admit to using a cage (aka playpen) for my first born.....I can see his little face now and fists shaking the bars....he was a hellion though, very strong willed and curious, and now I might add the only one of my children with rainbow hair and zillioins of piercings and tattoos. Children are very different and sometimes need different techniques to keeping them "safe" or indeed providing the parent with a minute or two to hoover or pee or something

What is wrong with reins??? What is wrong with playpens???

Also if you do not correct a child (which means the occasional spanking) how do you expect them to know right from wrong???

I know I wore reins when I was a toddler... given the fact that I was hyper-active I think that was the best thing to do... heaven knows what I could have done had I been allowed to do as I please!!!

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)
