Dear All: My wife came to the U.S. on a medical B-2 and is currently adjusting status to permanent resident (CR-1). She's received her travel document (advance parole) and her Employment Authorization card. She really would like to attend a few classes at the local community college. At what point during AOS is she allowed to study? Does the employment card give her authorization also to study, or does she have to wait for her CR-1 visa (permanent resident card)? Thanks.

I'd assume she's good to go and start the classes now  I know that as long as she's in a process of waiting no matter she still doesn't have the visa in hand or GC, she could attempt classes. Every college has students' advisers. If I were her, I'd go to that local community college and speak to such an adviser. My best friend was in a similar situation 2 years ago. She was still waiting for her GC when she started classes. As soon as she got the GC in mail, she updated her status at college. Good luck!

I could be wrong but there should be no reason why she can't take college course as long as she is in the US legally.

Be sure you can get in state tuition. Paying out of state could be a deal breaker, unless of course money is no object.
