Ok, ok...it's entirely my fault :) I admit it. My GC will expire Aug 22. I just filed Aug 5. Just got so busy. We just moved to a new house a month ago and we didn't want to file before moving (address change, etc).

And now---im worried that I'd have weeks where my status here in the US would be unclear. What do I do if it's aug 22 and I still haven't received any paper from USCIS extending my stay?

I really should have filed sooner! My bad.

heyyy don't worry i think u have enough time to get noa1 most probably u'll get it by 15th or 17th. if in case u didn't get by 1mnth from your filing date u can always make an infopass appointment n get ur passport stamped. you r set as u have applied before ur gc expires. so now just wait n watch :)

You applied before GC expired but they require you to apply to remove conditions 90 days before your card expires. I just hope things will work out well for you. All the best.

Hello:

Sorry, just clarifying something. The window for application STARTS90 days before your 2 year green card expires, it does not have to be applied for exactly 90 days before (in fact, leaving a few days gap is a precaution to them sending the package back). You filed within the window (before your green card expired), so you should be ok.

I agee with you. I think they allow 90 days so that you dont walk around with an expired GC. By the way is there a penalty for an expired GC?

You filed during the 90 day window so you are fine. If you are planning a trip abroad then you will need your NOA1 but otherwise it won't be a problem. If you don't receive it after 30 days call or make an infopass appointment. You just want to know that they received it and are working on it.

Your filing time is perfectly adequate.

Don't forget though, to submit the change of address for you (AR-11) as well as for your sponsor (I-865) .... if you haven't done so already, that is.
