Hi Everyone,

Im an American citizen living in Morocco with my husband and I have a few questions. First of all, I am considering whether to do Direct Consular Filing or Service Center Filing, so I would like to get some opinions on which method might be more efficient. I am also here with a child so I really dont want to be obligated to travel back and forth for visits or the interview. In other words Id rather stay here until the interview is complete and then if everything goes well, we leave together. I still have 4 months to go in order to meet the 6 month residency requirement. Would it be quicker just to mail everything to the US to file at a Service Center? Service Center processing times seem to vary now with some reporting their applications being adjudicated in as little as 2 months, while others are saying 6 months or more. Also, I know the Affidavit of Support is necessary for the CR1 because it is an immigrant green card, but is it also necessary for the K3 since it is a visa? Thanks in Advance.

One benefit of filing DCF is the immigrant doesn't do all of the associated paperwork in order to work once they arrive in the US because the green card and social security card arrive in the mail shortly after they enter the country. If I'm not mistaken, there's a temporary work permit stamped into their passport at the port of entry, but I'm not entirely sure. Regardless, a temporary permit isn't much use without a social security number.

Another is the bonifides of a relationship aren't as much of a challenge.

In a lot of cases it's faster, however AP is AP is AP. The chances are good there will be AP whether you are in the US or in Morocco. AP takes time, which adds delays - delays that wouldn't be there without it. There's nothing anybody can do about AP and there's no way to prevent it. All anybody can do is accept it's probably going to happen, be patient, and let the government do its job.

The best part is you won't be on opposite sides of the ocean, waiting to be reunited.

If you're there anyway and your circumstances allow it, why not just stay and do DCF?

Maybe you should ask someone on here that has done DCF through Casa. I know several people that have and the process was easier, but every situation is different. Personally, I would do it that way if you could stay there.
