So my interview is coming up very very quickly (2 weeks tomorrow) and I'm just wondering, is my fiancé allowed into the embassy with me? I have heard a few things about this and I've always been under the assumption that she is, providing she has i.d (her passport obviously)? Samantha arrives a week Monday which is amazing, but I am getting pretty damn nervous now... Really don't want to be denied because of my juvenile warning :( Oh well. Any help here is greatly appreciated!

More often than not, the USC is allowed into the Embassy for the interview. On a few occasions (including my interview) the Embassy has turned away all USC's on a particular day without any specific reason. It is always worth a try though....

Good Luck!!

Okay well I will let Samantha know this and we will have a back-up plan in place in case they turn her away at the door - that way there wont be any confusion! Any idea how long the interview process generally takes? Mine is a 9am start - nice and early! Thanks for the reply.

My husband's "on the spot" backup plan was to go get a coffee and then lurk near the exit as we had no idea how long it would take. I am trying to remember back to my interview. It was in August 2007, but also at 9am. I think I got there about 8.15 and came out about 2pm - hungry but very happy.

I'm not sure whether that kind of timing is still true this year, I'm sure more recent interviewees can post their experience.

I do remember that of the 5 hours or so, most of it was waiting and watching the "numbers screen".

Very best of luck though. :star:

Definitely get there well before 9. They don't check the times on appointment letters anymore so you can go in as early as they start letting folks in. You'll get out much quicker that way. My husband was in at 8 out by 10 on Tuesday.

The Sam's.

At my interview in January my USC fiancee was allowed in. They checked her US passport and wrote her name on the top of my appointment letter and that was it. Our interview was at 8am at we were done around 10.15am, but I've seen them take a lot longer.

Good luck!

I also went in the Embassy with my fiance. There is a Starbuck's half a block down the street and also a park adjacent to the Embassy that can be her back up plan.

I took notes of times while at the Embassy to put in our review. The appointment was 9:00.

08:20 – arrived embassy

08:42 – cleared security

08:48 – sat in waiting area with ticket 5011

10:00 – called to window #1 (paperwork, fingerprints, payment of fees)

10:15 – finished at window #1

10:55 – called to window #16 (more fingerprints, signing form, oath, interview)

11:02 – finished and in line to pay courier

11:05 – leaving the building.

Okay, thanks for all the advice - really appreciate it. My interview is for 9 but I read somewhere to get there for like 7:30 so I think I'm going to do that. Staying overnight in London so shouldn't be too difficult, will take note of the Starbucks and park for Samantha and we'll see how it goes on the day! Nerves are getting the best of me slowly but hopefully wont be that bad! Thanks again!

Just saw this on the Embassy Website:

My spouse is applying for an immigrant visa and I would like to accompany him to the visa interview with our baby who is a U.S. citizen. Is this OK?

30 July 2009 by: visaservices

Yes, a U.S. citizen wishing to accompany his or her spouse or fiancee to the immigrant visa interview may do so. However, your name must be entered onto the security access list otherwise you will not be admitted. Please call the Operator Assisted Information Service who will advise you how to do this. Please note that you will be required to present photo-id on the day.

Your children may accompany you even if they are not applying for a visa. However, those aged 12 or over must be included on the security access list and present photo-id such as a passport or student photo-id card. If you are bringing young children with you, you may wish to consider bringing books or toys to entertain them as you may be at the Embassy 2 – 3 hours. Please note that electronic items of any kind are not allowed within Embassy grounds.

Yes, this is what we were told as well when I was contemplating a last minute trip over...Then while I was deliberating airfares jumped suddenly...

Call, get the email code, ask to be put on the list as accompanying the beneficiary.
