Hi everyone,

I'm married to a US citizen and I'm in the final stages of putting together my AOS packet (I'm in the US right now on a valid F-1 visa that expires in July 2010, but I'm graduating December 2009 so my I-20 runs out then) and I'm trying to decide whether or not to submit the I-131 Travel Document along with my application.

My question is, can you submit the I-131 if you know you want to travel out of the US but you DON'T know when, or can you only submit the form for travel on specific dates that you know of already? I will probably leave the US for a vacation at some point in the next few years, but I don't know when or where.

I've looked on this site, USCIS's site, and read the form's instructions, but it doesn't say. I'd hoped I could speak to a human on USCIS's info line but no luck :( It looks like the form doesn't leave you the option of applying for future travel at some random time, but I wanted to try to double check here.

Thanks!

Okay, thank you - so what do I put for part 3 where it asks my date of intended departure and length of trip etc? And for Part 4 when it asks about information on my proposed travel? Or do I only complete part 5, which is about a reentry permit only?

Sorry for all the questions!

TBD (to be determined) seems to be acceptable response

Okay, thank you - but is what I'm applying for called a re-entry permit? Or is it advanced parole? For the re-entry permit they want a copy of my visa showing I was admitted as a permanent resident, which I wasn't. I was admitted here as a student.

Just estimate a date of intended travel, and put a few weeks for the trip. The part about Re-entry permit is for green-card holders who will be out of the country for longer than 6 months, not for you to be concerned with. You will check "e" in part two of the application and complete question 7 in part 3 of the form...don't worry about questions 4-6.

The I-131 is used for re-entry permit, refugee travel document and advance parole...same form. What you're seeking is an advance parole.

So "e" in part two says I'm outside the US, but I am currently living inside the US. Should I still check that box even though it's not true for me?

And I also don't see question 7 in part 3 of the form. Part 3 only seems to have 5 questions. Do you mean part 7 question 3? :) And if so, again, I am inside the US. Have been for 4 years.

Thank you for your help...
