Arresting someone without a legal reason to do so is pretty stupid in any logical book.

How is disorderly conduct not a legal reason?

Disorderly conduct is what you would call an offense. You might want to read the police report.

The legal reason ended when the ID was confirmed. Period. Trying to make orange juice out of apples is not cool.

Uh yeah thats what they arrested him on. Period. There was a legal reason therefore making what you said wrong. According to the police he was being unruly and rude.

Read Steven's previous post again.

Disorderly conduct is pretty vague. Leaves a lot of wiggle room and potential for abuse of authority.

It is vague but if the officers account of the story is true I dont blaming them for arresting him.

Even IF true- his authority ends for that call out upon ID verification. His version is just as 'attitude-laced' as was the prof's. Two 'wrongs' do not make a right and certainly... attitude is not legally punishable.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

No it did not end when the ID was confirmed.I read the report and our professor never stopped arguing and screaming bloody murder insulting officers who were just answering the call that they were dispatched to.I work in law enforcement I can tell you that those words are being thrown around a lot when people do not have a better argument.

Stop black drug dealer on the block and the first thing that will come out his mouth will be"oh you are harassing me just because I am black!"

Stop latino crackhead that is kneeling next to someone elses car it will be because they are latino.

Deal with drunk or high white dude he will call you wetback and say things like "why don't you go back to your country?"

Our professor with his degree should of had more common sense than that.If he nicely explained what happened and showed his ID I am very confident that the officers would tell him to have a safe night and they would leave.

So maybe next time time when there is a burglary call at the professors house and officers arrive and see a black man in his house maybe they should just say nevermind instead of subjecting themselves to justifying why they are doing their job.

Sorry but since I get to see the incidents like that first hand and it happens a lot - it just irks the hell out of me to see how some people think.

You must be the expert then.

One thing is having the police do their job and another is to overstep authority- clearly the case here.

Like has been stated for the umpteenth time- attitude is not illegal.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I think Rosana hit it spot on -

Hal just cause you keep repeating that dosnt make it true, what grounds do you have to go on??? They had a legal reason if there account of the story is true. Its his word against the cops word and you and I dont really know what happened. I think you have been blinded by that Harvard badge and willing to give him a free ride. Sad.

Oh Noes!

You can dream if you like but IT IS FRONT PAGE AT MOST NEWS SITES.

Which is why the country is effed up. Too many people overly concerned with irrelevant shite.

I blame Obama.

Was it not a black professor who made an issue out of this?

Don't freagin blame whitey for this one mate.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Well, clearly I am better expert than YOU.

On the other note they gave the professor more than one chance to cool off and calm his "attitude" that involved him yelling and raising his voice repeatedly calling officer names and he still refused to do it or to follow instructions.Especially once they were on the public street and his rampage continued - yeah that is disorderly misconduct.

Here is one story for you - a few days ago police was following up on the armed robbery call - made by young black man saying he got robbed on the gun point by 3 other young black males. They located the 3 suspects and were questioning them on the street( they are also known as local drug dealers).Of course the crowd around was curious at what is going on and then a black guy that was standing behind me made a comment "what is going on here - i see police and a whole lot black men.they must be doing the racial profiling again."

I turned around and recognized the individual as a "wannabe porn star producer" who hangs out all day long at the bus and train stations harassing underage girls to star in his movies..

I leave the conclusions to you..And with that this thread as well..Until you did the job yourself you wont know what am I talking about so i wont waste my time.

BTW..my husband is black just so there is no confusion.

There is no winning because they will cry foul that the government is racist and does not protect black people.

Here we go again

Angry and race obsessed. And not even the target of discrimination.

Just bizarre.

I am waiting on your answer from the other thread. I started with quoting from the FBI the statistics on rape. If we all act equally then the crime rate should reflect this. Funny how this we're equal logic goes out the window when it comes to affirmative action.

I totally disagree... if a police officer enters a residence without probable cause & arrests someone (in this case for disorderly conduct) then the charge would be dismissed & the police department may be subject to a lawsuit. It has not been proven that the police officer entered without probable cause but based on the facts he may have been in the wrong.

I neighbor reported the incident. Thus, the probably cause. Nothing else to it.

'If you say so'

Again we're not making examples. The police report is clear. The call out was for B&E. That was resolved with a positive ID for the resident. End of story.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Looking Up it is disingenuous for you to say Hal is wrong & at the same time take the police officer's version as being 100% factual. You are sending a very mixed message. Like you said we really don't know what happened.

I'll save you some time and say that I'm well aware that there is a big disparity in terms of the demographic makeup of prison populations. The difference is that I am actually interested in the reasons behind this, whereas you insist on using it merely as a springboard for racist rants.

When you actually start reading what people write and understand arguments written in plain language, then we will have something to discuss. But you don't, so there isn't.
