As they both must have a I-864 because they are getting separate visa, you DO NOT list them in that section.

Tay sorry to say but that is not correct info - i read the instructions on i-864 and per the instructions, i do have to list the other parent in question 9 and do have to count both parents in calculating total family size - you figure both application would have the same number of family members after all is said and done - please confirm.

I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above. Do not include any relative listed on a separate visa petition.

Because you have to file a separate visa application for each parent i.e 2 x I-130, 2 x I-864, 2 x DS-230. You DO NOT include them in Question 9.

But if you feel you need to include them in that question then do so. All I know is that my I-864 for each of my parents has been reviewed and accepted by NVC.

21f - Enter the number of lawful permanent residents whom you are currently obligated to support based on your previous submission of Form I-864 as a petitioning, substitute, or joint sponsor, or of Form I-864EZ as a petitioning sponsor. Include only those persons who have already immigrated to the United States

As your parents have not yet immigrated to the USA you can only list the person that the I-864 refers to. But feel free to include the other parent if you think that is the correct thing to do..

well you could also be right here but one thing is for sure - these forms and their language leaves a lot to be desired

Can I ask you a question?

Why bother to come on VJ and ask for help in filling out the required forms and then dispute the information for people who have already gone through the process?

If you already know the answers to your questions then why ask others for their help?

i didnt want to second guess myself - i am changing my forms to reflect no one in this question since you've already had success with not lisiting your other parent under question 9 so yes posting my question here did help me

Hi Rajthebam,

Tay is right. Do not list your other parent under question 9.

I also read I-864 instructions and therefore did not list my other parent under that question; NVC received and processed my parents' I-864s without asking me to correct anything.

Good luck!
