I just got a job offer for a good gig in Richmond...but I'm hesitating because I'm not sure of it. How's it like? I lived in VA for a while, but in the DC suburbian area....

Timeline:

Sent in I-130 form: 01/29/09

Interview Date: 11/08/09 (APPROVED!)

Visa in Hand: 11/12/09

POE: 01/30/10 (!!!!) at JFK Airport in NYC... can't wait!

Got the green card maybe 8 weeks after 01/30/10...

Richmond is like a typical U.S. city. There are shopping malls, museums and parks that you can go during the day and clubs and pubs during the night. As far as the area is concerned, you get a not-so-friendly parts in downtown and a relatively middle to high end income of people living on the west side. I lived in Richmond for almost 10 years and I didn't have any problem with it. Good luck with your arrival! I am sure you will find Richmond a rather enjoyable city With a little exploration.

I would look at the suburbs. Compared to NYC or the DC suburbs, the people in the burbs there are really nice and friendly. There are also some really nice places and outdoor malls there.
