Preparation for marriage application in VN

Hi there,

We are preparing for documents to apply for the marriage certificate in VN now. I appreciate if you guys would help.

As construction on US Consulate in HCMC website, we need to have:

1. Affidavit of Single Status (notarized by notary public)

2. Single Status Letter (obtained from Vital Statistic Office)

3. Certified passport and birth certificate (notarized by notary public)

Next step is to have all 3 documents listed above authenticated by Secretary of State Office. Then bring all to VN, have them authenticated by Viet government.

I know that my bf can obtain the notarized Affidavit of Single Status, notarized certified passport and birth certificate in US Consulate in HCMC. However, I wonder if the US Consulate can authenticate all 3 documents listed above or I have to have them authenticated by Secretary of State in the states?

Thanks alot for your sharing

First of all, welcome to VJ family, and second, please write your timline.

Are you working on CR1?

I started my single status for VN marriage certificate for only $400 (lawyer office), which including (Mentally exams in US). You don't need it, you will be exam over in VN hospital. I did all the calculation, how much does it costs for me to start the paperwork on my own from Affidavit of single status, and I will give you all the number, and how much time you will need to spend on to get this done.

1. Affidavit of Single Status (notarized by notary public) = $40-$60

2. Single Status Letter (obtained from Vital Statistic Office) = $10 (spend 2 or 3 hours)

3. Certified passport and birth certificate (notarized by notary public) = $40-$60

4. US Consulate can authenticate all 3 Or Viet Nam consulate in WDC, or San Franscisco = $100

5. authenticated by Secretary of State = $60 (atleast 6 hours)

It's worth for letting the lawyer to work on Single Status, and less headache, and waste your time. For the rest of paperwork I-130, USCIS, and NVC, you can do that on your own time. Let me know if you have any questions.

Just my 2 cents.
