That depends

Officially per the Islamic Society of North America it's the 22nd but many people who have relatives overseas celebrate it when their countries celebrate it. I think last year Egypt started and ended the same date as we did here in the US but from what I've witnessed Saudi Arabia seems to always be a day or two before everyone for whatever reason. I never understood that since I would think they'd site the moon around the same day as Egypt but then again what do I know.

So, some celebrate it when they're homelands start it, some follow the ISNA date and some just go wtih their own personal moon sighting or follow the mosque that they attend regularly. The mosque that we sometimes go to is mostly Moroccan and they were always starting a day or two before us.

Ah, frustrating for new Muslims, that is for sure! I totally missed Eid one year- as I thought it was one day; but our local mosque celebrated it the day before.

Now I keep close tabs on it all!

How are you preparing these days?

I wanna know what the above poster is stuffing her dates with ??? me, ready? got hubby and we're going back and forth when to start Ramandan... I say by the locals when the moon is seen with the naked eye.. he says when Saudi does..grrrrrr ultimately you all know I'll do what he says but there's gotta be some clear cut statement on this?

grrrrr every year we go thru this does not seem to matter what country we are in at the time but last year some of my friends started ramadan a day later than we did in the states plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz somebody give an answer as to when it starts this year

I am not prepared at all, except I got some dates. Which my son insisted upon trying one of them. LOL Well, he did not care for it, but I was so proud of him for trying something new.
