Hello, I live in the United States and I am an American citizen, but my father is a British citizen. I am eligible for a British passport and so I turned in all of the necessary paperwork to apply for a British passport on the 12th of May. The process is supposed to take 6 weeks because of a backlog and technical difficulties, which I understand. I intended to travel with this passport on the 3rd of July. Unfortunately, I have heard nothing from the British consulate.

I have called the Careline service which costs $3 a minute and they never have an answer. They do know that payment was received on the 30th of May for my passport. However, that is all the information they ever provide. They told me they would have the consulate contact me because it was 5 days before my intended date of departure when I complained about the slow service. However, to this day no one has contacted me.

I cannot afford to spend $3 a minute anymore and it is useless because they have no answers. I have written a complaint letter to both the Embassy and the production center in Washington D.C.

At this point, I have already been charged for the passport (30th of May) but I have NO idea what is going on with the process and I have no other recourse. I have not been told about scheduling an interview, I do not know if there are any mistakes in the application, and I just want to know how much longer it is going to take.

Do any of you have similar experiences or ideas as to what I can do? I am bleeding money and time because of this and I am so fed up because it is virtually impossible to talk with any of these people.

May 12: turned in application

May 30: they charged my credit card

July 3: date of departure

Today is the 8th of July: I have no idea what is going on, no one will contact me and I cannot get through to anybody.

Best,

andrew

I am going to guess that most here will only have experiance in renewingwhich in my case was very quick.

I have no idea if you can do anything, but be grateful you are not dealing with the USCIS.

Why not travel on your US passport.

Sorry to hear about the USCIS. Never had an experience with them.

Unfortunately, I had to give the British Consulate my American passport in my application to obtain my British one. So I am without it until I get the UK passport.
