Race has got to be finally tucked away as a determining factor in setting social, political, judicial, etc decisions. This should be extended to everything, including ensuring HR decisions are such, and that SELECTION CRITERIA do not bias on race as well.

So you oppose affirmative action? I support it, even though my race isn't benefited by it in college admissions, because it pisses off the people I hate.

Plenty of white people support AA ;) It wouldn't have become law if they didn't. Behind every forward looking social movement in this country, there's a group of good, tolerant and caring white folk.

Don't get it twisted, homey.

AA didn't spring up out of the ground - as part of some dubious Illuminati tin-hat conspiracy. There is a reason for it - and it has everything to do with real-world social inequalities arising from past injustices.

Some people supported those inequalities. They used to be Dixie Dems, now they're the GOP's southern base.

That's where the most vociferous opposition to AA comes from. Their precious Klan didn't work out so now they wreak their terrorism from within. I gotta give it to 'em, it's smart.

Certainly. I think its nearly outlived its use- even with all the ironic whining going on from 'victims' of racial injustice, and I don't mean the actual ones that have had to put up with a lot worse than getting passed up for jobs or promotions.

The envelope needs to be pushed away from a country full of unequal communities to one where equal access is legally guaranteed to all and evidence can be documented to show the level of discrimination going on where it exists. This may mean making procedures much more transparent than they are currently, within sensible limits of privacy protection and intellectual property rights.

As long as one 'side' can confabulate victimization against 'another' there will be anger and mistrust and polarization where there is no logical necessity for such silly, immature things. Denial obviously plays a large role in historical race relations, but its time for all parties involved to move onto bigger and better things to b!tch about.

I think fewer people are adversely affected by AA than is made out in some elements of the media.

All you had to type was

AA + pundits + media and we'd be all clear on that angle.

I think its nearly outlived its use ...

Nearly.

pretty much. Of course... when its gone we can expect the remnants of the racist brigades to up their whining as we move on to a social agenda that actually integrates all in this society that actually does guarantee equal access to all based on all being equal, since that in effect goes against the intolerance and inequality they themselves breathe into society.

Race is always the issue when AA comes up - but there are AA programs for women and ex-military folks as well. Its not exactly as cut and dried as is made out.

Darn libruls... always hating on non-military, white men.
