A new documentary called Food, Inc (

) got a limited release in theatres last week. I've been waiting to see that one for a while. It looks interesting. Thinking about it earlier, I was wondering if anyone else here loves documentaries. I thought I would post a few of my favorites and feel free to share yours too and discuss them.

Werner Herzog shows us the life of Timothy Treadwell, a man who lived with Alaskan grizzlies for 13 years until finally one of them mauled him and his girlfriend to death. The man meant well but he was more than a little crazy and the documentary is pretty fascinating.

In the 1890's the people in the town of Black River Falls, Wisconsin went insane. A rash of crime, violent and otherwise, swept the area and just general bizarre happenings plagued them. It's narrated by Ian Holm, who reads actual newspaper articles about the crimes.

I was going to post more but I'm getting sleepy so I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

I love documentaries. I went to see the recent one on Tyson, which was excellent:

I also really like the work Alex Gibney:

Taxi to the Dark Side, Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter D. Thompson and Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room are all excellent

I've never seen any of those but I did see one he produced called Who Killed the Electric Car and I loved it. I'll have to check out the others. I've come close to watching Taxi to the Dark Side a few times.
