Hello,

I am applying for a CR-1, and have just received my interview date in August.

Although I'm not foolish enough to resign my job and plan the big move until I pass the interview (despite the temptation!), I would like to go and visit my wife straight after the interview.

First (simple!) question: Assuming I pass the interview on 14th August, how likely is it that I will be leaving with my passport on the day? Or, will the embassy retain it, stamp it, and mail it back to me?

Second (advanced!) question: If the embassy DOES retain my passport, then I have a second passport (this is standard issue by UK govt if you need to visit both Israel and a Muslim country for business). If I use that passport to enter the US to see my wife for a week, will US border control query that I am travelling on one passport number whilst in the visa process with another passport number?

Advice from anyone with experience would be much appreciated!

Many thanks, Tony

Tony, you will not receive your visa the same day. If the interview is successful the embassy will keep your passport and you will pay a courier to deliver it. It usually takes 2-3 business days for the visa to be printed then it is delivered the next day.

Though I'm not sure of any reason traveling on a second passport would cause a problem, I wouldn't recommend it. Why take the chance? I think it's safer to wait the 3 or 4 days to enter the country on the visa and not risk being turned around at POE.

Also, we have a group of UK CR-1 filers in a thread here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=198808

Perhaps you'll find the answers to any other questions you have in there.

The embassy in London is erally quick. I had to send in some more forms after my interview because we had not signed them properly and so I had to courier my passport back to the embassy and then back to me. From them picking it up from my house in Nottingham and delivering it back to me took 6 days so I wouldn't think it would take too long. 2-4 days tops. Plus they will send you a text the ady before delivery.
