This is the first time i have posted anything on here. I really Hope someone can help me out with this. I would appreciate any help all of you can give me. My wife and I have our interview date in the US Embassy in Bogota Colombia on July 31. She gets her Lab work done on July 28 and her examination on July 29. I have heard that other people had to do a form called DS-156. USCIS and the National Visa Center never asked me for it. Is the DS-156 something i will need to do and take to the interview?? Our CR1 never said anything about it. I was just wondering if we will need it or not.

We got married June 17, 2007 in Colombia. It took us a very longtime to get approved. I had to get my state congressman involved. but it finally got approved. Ohh if you all don't mind i have a few more questions.. Sorry this is so long. I will try to keep it shorter.

here are some questions.

1. do i need to do the DS-156 and take it to the interview with me??

2. Will they return all of the original and translated documents to us??

3. When she gets to the USA, What papers do we have to do next for her adjustment of status for her greencard??

4. If they do give us our original documents back and our translations back, do we need to use them again for her greencard??

well thats all i can think of for now.

If i left anything out and if there is anymore advise you can give to me then my wife and i would greatly appreciate your help. We welcome all advise you may give to us.

ohh i just thought of a few more questions.. Do any of you all know of any good cheap hotels that might be near the US Embassy in Bogota??

And How much cash do i need to pay for her LAB and examination fee?? and how much cash do i need for the US Embassy for the delivery and anything else?? Do they take cash?? or do i have to do something else?? 1 very important question is, WOULD IT BE CHEAPER TO HAVE HER DO HER VACCINATIONS IN HER CITY OF MONTERIA??? If there is anything i left out just please let me know.. I hope i covered everything..

Sorry this was so long. Im new at this. I heard everyone on here is very nice thats why i decided to ask you all for help. I been to 1 other website, but there are alot of rude people on it... Thank you all and good luck and god bless...........

1) DS-156 is an application for a non-immigrant visa... I assume you will be applying for an immigrant visa (DS-230)

2) Only provide originals if they are specifically asked for.

3) If she arrives on an immigrant visa then she has her greencard

4) see #3

1. do i need to do the DS-156 and take it to the interview with me??

-Not needed for CR1. BUT would be safe to send her copy of your I-864 and all attached docs.

2. Will they return all of the original and translated documents to us??

- I heard in some embassy they do, I heard in some they don't. I suppose once approved you can ask if you can get them back. If not, I suggest you guys get another certified copy before she leaves... you may need it for something else while in the US.

3. When she gets to the USA, What papers do we have to do next for her adjustment of status for her greencard??

-You are an IR1 visa applicant, (two years married already) then she will get a 10 year GC upon entry to US. Might take a while before the actual card arrives to your doorstep but she is a 10 yr. GC holder already. No adjustment of status.

4. If they do give us our original documents back and our translations back, do we need to use them again for her greencard??

Again, you already have a GC... however, i think if she wants to become a US citizen you have to submit the marriage certificates again.. or something like that. Check the guides to help you with this.

Good luck and our prayers are with you!
