I'm filing two I-130's in vancouver for my wife and son next week, and I'm wondering how long once our petitions are approved before we have a scheduled interview in montreal. I already asked this in another post, but I'm just looking for a simple answer, and maybe a link to a US website showing current IR-1/CR-1 montreal interview wait times...

Also, as the sponsor, when do I have to file the I-864? Is that with packet 3?

Are you looking for a 'u.s. site' that will give you an exact waiting time for and IR1 interview in Montreal? It doesn't exist.

The current wait time is around 3 months, I'm not sure what other answer you are looking for?

Thanks trailmix, basically my wife has been on me about the wait time, and wants to see an 'official' site showing wait times(like the visa processing times you find on the consular sites). I couldn't find one, but maybe I'm not looking in the right spot.

See my timeline below. We might have saved about 6 weeks if hubby hadn't used snail mail to pay the fees at the NVC stage.

Good luck on your journey!

Janet

Oops sorry I didn't see you were a DCF so my input is not relevant.

Hi,

np, and I understand your wife's impatience or frustration or both. Yes, there really is not an official site.

Elsoar is the most recent person on VJ to file DCF, it took her 4 months from filing the I-130 to her interview in Montreal.

ok so if my wife comes to 'visit' me in the US(and gets through the border), then she should be able to stay there until the interview is scheduled, go to the interview in montreal, then enter the us with visa in hand........as long as it doesn't take longer than 6 months to get the interview. Sound about right?

I sent my packet three in on February 11, and I just had my interview on June 17. If you haven't received instructions yet (i.e., your packet three), that will clarify re: I-864s. All those forms you complete and bring with you to Montreal. One note about notifications for the interview for Montreal. I would think that normally they give more notification time (although I don't know), but I was given 3 weeks notice. And it was actually 3 weeks only because I had emailed them a question regarding another matter and in the reply they mentioned they were mailing out the letter. Had I simply received the letter of notifcation telling me the date, it would have been two weeks. There is nothing to be done about that, but you might like to know that when the time comes there might be some scrambling.

Hi Jensky,

just wondering, did you file DCF in vancouver? and how long after you're I-130's were accepted did it take for you to get your packet 3?

My concern is similar to LeprechaunSean. We just received an NOA2 for my wife's application. We're taking a trip to Europe next month, and would like to be able to have my wife stay here for a month or so....maybe even until her interview in Montreal (I'm only 4 hours away - she lives in Western Canada).

I've seen various threads about this issue on the board. However, I am curious to know if anyone has specific experience with this. From Europe, we'll be landing in the United States upon return. My wife has not sorted out any of her affairs in Canada (financial, etc), and would have proof that she'll return (return ticket, etc). When arriving from a third country, is it likely that they would ask her to get on a plane and go on to Canada? Ultimately, I would think it's at the discretion of the officer at the POE.
