shortly after arriving in Vietnam next month, we want to start the process of getting married. Other than my passport, birth certificate and divorce certificate... is there anything else that I need to do here in the US before I leave. Hanh is telling me about a Single Status Affidavit, but she thinks I can do that there at the Embassy. Can someone let me know the deal. Thanks Y'all :)

Ralph, refer to this Vietnam Embassy website, it will give you more detail on what you need:

http://www.vietnamembassy.us/consular_serv...y_a_vietnamese/

It usually takes 3-4 weeks to get it in the US. I think it would be easier to do it from America because of less corruption (there will still be some corruption dealing with the vietnam embassy) I did my paperwork in the US using a service in houston, http://kshouston.com/, They prepared all my paperwork for me and gave me the really easy medical examination there too, no blood work taken, all it is a mental exam really really easy stuff. They sent all the stuff to the Vietnam embassy in Washington DC and my paperwork was ready 3 weeks later. I submited all the paperwork they gave me in Vietnam to the place where you get Marriage Certificates (so tu phap) and they interviewed me and took my pictures and gave us a Marriage certificate 4 weeks later, maybe sooner if you give them "coffee money".

If you need anymore more help let me know.

I wish you luck Ralph and Hanh!
