I'd say, "let this be a lesson to anyone that tries to #### with SKY" but I seem to recall ITV digital going the same way a few years back after they paid over the odds for Championship games, in the deluded belief that they'd actually compete with the satellite giant.

Lessons not learned, it would seem. Rupert Murdoch must be pissing himself laughing (again).

It's kind of a mixed blessing for Rupert and Sky - they can't take Sentanta's rights as EC rules don't allow for a single broadcaster to have a monopoly on rights. They've been arguing for a long time to open up UK sports rights to bid on the Olympics, England games and the Grand National and what not that are currently reserved for free channels - it undermines the argument that they are a regular player in a competitive landscape that won't behave as a monopoly and drive up the cost for fans to watch. In a way Setanta was the perfect competitor for them to have.

Yep I agree and SKY and Murdoch have ruined so much tv in the UK.
