Hi,

I've been reading through the posts and interview reviews and alot of folks are talking about bringing forms 156, 156k.

Well, in my packet 3 I never recieved these and there was no mention of it. All I recieved was ds-230, affidavit of support and instructions to go online to fill out form ds-160.

Did they stop issuing the 156 forms? I am just curious as those who had interviews in May had them.

Thanks

Moving this to regional.

The consulates in canada have started using the newer DS-160 in place of older form.

DS-160 (NEW): Coming Soon. The new DS-160 Online, Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, will eventually replace current nonimmigrant application forms DS-156, 157, 158, and other related forms, such as the DS-156E, 156K, and 156V. The roll-out of the new DS-160 will be gradual. Therefore, not all U.S. Embassies and Consulates will be required to use the form at the same time

MORE:

About the New Online Form

The new DS-160, Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, is a fully integrated online application form that will be used to collect the necessary application information from persons seeking a nonimmigrant visa. The DS-160 will be submitted electronically to the Department of State via the Internet. Consular Officers will use the information entered on the DS-160 to process the visa application and, combined with a personal interview, will determine an applicant’s eligibility for a nonimmigrant visa.

The new DS-160 online, Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, is currently being used only at selected U.S. Embassy and Consulate locations. NOTICE: Nonimmigrant visa applicants will need to review U.S. Embassy website how-to-apply information for detailed instructions. Nonimmigrant visa applicants at the following U.S. Embassy and Consulate locations are required to apply using the online DS-160;

  • Bermuda; Hamilton

  • Canada; Montreal and Vancouver

  • Hong Kong

  • Ireland; Dublin

  • Libya; Tripoli

  • Mexico; Ciudad Juarez, Hermosillo, Matamoros, Monterrey, Nogales, and Nuevo Laredo

They actually asked for the DS156 in Packet 4, not packet 3 from what I remember. Just wait to see what Packet 4 says, you might not need it anymore.

Either way, can't hurt to go online and fill them out - they are both easy/simple forms.

How Strange. I got my instructions, for the Vancouver Consulate, in early May, telling me where to go on the website, to fill out my forms and 156 and 156K are on them of what to bring. This was the revised 05/06/09 forms. No mention of the ds-230. I'm going to guess that my instruction where sent out before the change? My interview is soon, and with no contact as to fill out the new form. I'll fill out the ones from the list and hope they're happy!!

My husband just recently received and sent packet 3 to Montreal. His was the same as yours: ds-230, affidavit of support and instructions to go online to fill out form ds-160. I asked him several times if there was anything else and he said no. So my guess is that's how it is now. :-)

If I remember right... part 2 of one of the forms was the same as the 156 and possibly the 156K. Also, if I remember right, since the online form was still be "tried", we had to do it ALL! LOL So, my guess is, they've worked out the kinks of the online forms and the duplicity is being reduced in forms/information.

I'd recommend emailing the Embassy/Consulate for verification. Good luck!

Yeah, I was thinking that. Course, I'll also have the packet with me, including the instructions that I printed off and they can see it didn't mention it. I'll email them, and if they want me to do it then I will, and also bring the required forms, because that was what they expected of me anyways?

Did that make sense??? I think I need a coffee....

I am confused TimandJoyce, did you fax back the DS-230 Part I to receive your interview date as it says in Step 1 of Packet 3? There is also the Part II of the DS-230 which I brought to the interview in case, and they took it, but I cannot remember if they made me sign that form when they collected my documents. I think there was two forms to sign in front of the person who collects the documents but which ones I cannot remember. I brought a copy of the DS-230 Part II, DS-156 (2 copies printed off) and the DS-156K to the interview.

Edit: Vancouver does not use the online DS-160, just the DS-156 and DS-156K

No, I didn't get the date because of that. I did fax off part one only of DS-230, and like yourself, bring part two with me, just in case. I got my appointment after faxing off the checklist, except of course, my medical is the next day, and they are aware of that. (I'm bringing the emails to show that too!) I had heard that Vancouver was booked up all of June, so I faxed the check list in early May. I was so happy to see a June 23rd date!! Maybe because I put intended date of marriage as Sept. 5th. (even though it's gotten changed since then)

wow I did a lot more printing off of things tonight, pics; forms, etc. I think I'm going to be ready for this!! ^_^ Waiting for Tim to send up some goodies for me...you know..the support issue.

I left another note in the Vancouver interview thread, if anyone can answer. I'm curious about the "self supporting" part of the evidence of support.
